Jared P. Bromley, 26, of Hartford, NY and a former Fort Ann, NY elementary teacher and basketball coach charged with second degree sexual abuse and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child says ‘no deal’ to a plea bargain.
Bromley is accused of allowing two middle school students to masturbate in front of him on campus and for allegedly touching one of the male students with a ruler.
Bromley was charged in February of this year on allegations that two students witnessed Bromley measuring the genitalia of another boy. Allegedly Bromley would use a harness made of masking tape for this activity, thereby not actually touching the boy.
Bromley through his lawyer has rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in his serving 60 days in the Washington County Jail and being on probation for six years.
Bromley’s attorney maintains that Bromley has done nothing wrong.
7/17/07 – Bromley Indicted
Jared Bromley has been indicted by a grand jury on 16 charges, three of which are felonies.
The grand jury indicted Bromley on charges of course of sexual conduct against a child and first-degree coercion, which are felonies. Bromley was also indicted on misdemeanors of second-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and making an apparently sworn false statement.
If convicted of the charges for which he has now been indicted Bromley faces a maximum of 21 years in prison.
11/30/07 – Guilty Plea
Jared Bromley has entered a guilty plea.
As part of the plea deal, Bromley will be sentenced to 60 days in jail, 10 years probation and will be ordered to register as a sex offender.
Formal sentencing will occur in January.
1/11/08 – Sentencing
Jared P. Bromley was today sentenced to 60 days in jail and 10 years’ probation for felony second-degree sexual conduct for repeated sexual conduct with two 13-year-old boys. Reportedly Bromley will have to serve at least 40 days of his sentence.
In addition to the jail time, Bromley must also register as a sex offender and his teaching license was revoked.
At today’s sentencing hearing the mother of one of Bromley’s victims called him a pedophile and a predator and then she really got started in on Bromley.
