Darren Berg, 39, a math teacher and track coach at Sturgeon Bay High School in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student.

Reportedly, Berg is expected to be charged with felony sexual contact with a student by a school staff person.

Berg came to the attention of authorities after students and parents told school staff members about a possible inappropriate relationship involving Berg and the alleged victim. School administrators reportedly conducted an investigation and allegedly observed Berg and the girl having conversations and sending text messages to each other. School administrators reported the matter to Sturgeon Bay Police.

During the course of their investigation police obtained copies of the text messages allegedly between Berg and the student. It is also alleged that during a one-week period, the student sent more than 40 messages to Berg and Berg sent almost 50 messages to the student. District Attorney Ray Pelrine indicated that the records of text messages between Berg and the student revealed the alleged inappropriate relationship.

Peter Simonds, 44, a former fourth-grade teacher at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta, Maine has reportedly been arrested on allegations of unlawful sexual contact with three female students.

Reportedly, Simonds faces charges of unlawful sexual touching and unlawful sexual contact.

Following his arrest, Simonds was reportedly held in the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscassett, however he posted $20,000 cash bail and was released.

Police said the incidents happened at the school and there are three alleged victims.

According to a spokesperson for the school district, Simonds resigned from his teaching position Thursday.

Police say the investigation is continuing.

Wendy Daignault, a special education teacher at the Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology in Albany, New York has reportedly been arrested on allegations of inappropriately touching a 14-year-old female.

Reportedly, Daignault has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of child.

It is alleged that Daignault inappropriately touched a 14-year-old-girl in July. Reportedly, the alleged victim is not a student of Daignault’s and the alleged incident is said to have occurred in a private home in Guilderland.

Daignault came to the attention of Guilderland Police by way of complaint by the alleged victim’s parents.

Reportedly, Daignault has been placed on paid leave by the school system and is due back in court on Thursday.

Barry P. Morris, 63, a fourth-grade teacher at West Ridge Road Elementary School in Greece, New York has reportedly been arrested on allegations of the sexual abuse a 13-year-old girl.

According to WHAM TV, Morris has been charged with a first degree criminal act, formerly called sodomy, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Reportedly, the alleged victim is not a student of Morris and that the alleged crimes are unrelated to his role as a teacher.

Morris was arrested on July 31st and was subsequently released on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

According to a school system spokesperson, Morris, who has taught at the school for 19 years, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Barry Morris is the second Greece, New York teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault in the past year. Jeffrey Hoffman was arrested last November on allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student.

-3/19/10 – Barry Morris Retires

Reportedly, Barry Morris submitted his retirement request to the Greece Central School District and the school approved his request at a meeting last month.

Prior to his retirement, Morris had been on paid administrative leave.

According to Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck, Morris’ case was supposed to go to trial on March 22, but has been adjourned without a new date being set.
