(Canada) Jennifer Dorland, 42, a former teacher from Cornwall, Ont. has been sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting one of her 13-year-old students. She also received two years probation and must register as a sex offender. Link 1 and Link 2
(N.Z.) Stephen Shone, 30, a Gisborne teacher and music tutor has been sent to prison for 8½ years for sex offences against five of his teenage pupils. Link
(U.S. – New York) Edward Tellez, 36, a gymnastics coach from Eastport was arrested by Suffolk County Police on Tuesday morning after one of his former teenage students reported that he had inappropriately touched her more than two years ago. Link
(Canada) Leslie Merlino, 38, a former teacher at Streetsville Secondary School has been charged with sexually assaulting one of her female students for a second time. Court records show that last year, Merlino was convicted of assault and given a suspended sentence with 18 months probation following an incident in the fall of 2006 with a female student, then aged 17. (U.K.) Stephen Royle, 53, an IT teacher at Lowton High School pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to one offence of possessing indecent images and 16 counts of making indecent images of children. Royle was sentenced to 34 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for two years. He was also made subject of a supervision order for two years and must take part in the Sex Offender Treatment Programme. Link
(Australia) Amanda Louise Thompson, 28, a maths teacher has appeared in court over claims she seduced a vulnerable female pupil who was suffering from an eating disorder. Link
(N.Z.) Paul Alexander Conner is on trial in the Invercargill District Court on one charge of doing an indecent act on an 11-year-old boy and three charges of doing indecent acts on another boy when he was aged between 11 and 13. Both were taught by Conner at New River Primary School. Link
(N.Z.) Shane David Rahui, a former Dargaville High School teacher, has appeared in the Christchurch District Court on 21 charges of distributing objectionable material. Link
