Ian James Daw, 24, a substitute teacher at Gonzales High School in Gonzales, California was reportedly arrested at school on Thursday on allegations of unlawful sex with a 16 year-old female student and child molestation.

Daw was reportedly arrested on one count each of unlawful sex and child molestation.

Daw came to the attention of police by way of notification by school officials on Thursday morning after rumors of the illicit relationship surfaced. Both Daw and the student were interviewed by school officials.

Investigators have indicated that they believe that the alleged sexual activity betwen Daw and the student happened only once, was consentual and happened away from school.

Reportedly Daw has worked as a substitute teacher at the school for less than a year.

Following his arrest, Daw was held in the Monterey County Jail in lieu of bail of $15,000.

Gonzales police ask that anyone with information about the investigation call 675-5010 or to remain anonymous call 1-800-78-CRIME.

03/17/09 – Court Appearance

Ian Daw made a court appearance and pleaded not guilty today on charges of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old student.

Daw’s next court appearance is set for April 1st and he remains free on bond.

04/16/09 – No Contest Plea

Reportedly, Daw’s attorney says that Daw pleaded no contest Wednesday to charges he unlawfully had sex with a student last month.

Of his client’s plea, Terrance McCleerey said, “It’s just one of those things – it was the right thing to do …. He feels very, very badly.”

Sentencing is set for June 10th and Daw reportedly faces up to a year in jail.

    What is the update on this case? Sentencing was June 10th and I have not seen updates anywhere.
