Heather Kennedy, 25, a math teacher at Wataugh High School, Long Island, New York has been arrested for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old male student in Massapequa.
Kennedy has been charged with third degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child on allegations that on March 20 Kennedy had sexual intercourse with the student she was reportedly tutoring in math.
Kennedy who came to the attention of police by way of the boy’s father will be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.

Kenedy was arraigned today First District Court in Hempstead and her bail was set at $35,000.

Reportedly the boy sent a text message to the teacher last week asking if she wanted to get together. The boy picked up Kennedy in his car and after spend some time together the teen asked Kennedy if she wanted to have sex. Allegedly she agreed and they did so in the boy’s car in the parking lot of Massapequ High School.
When the boy was grilled by his father as to why he came home so late, the teen admitted being with his teacher. The boy’s father called police the next day.
Kennedy’s bond was put up by her parents and she was released from jail after arraignment yesterday.
07/22/08 – Guilty Plea and More Charges
Last month Heather Kennedy pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and is awaiting an August sentencing date at which time she could receive up to a year in jail.
While awaiting sentencing Kennedy was ordered to stay away from the victim.
Kennedy has now been arrested again on charges of third-degree rape, committing a criminal sexual act, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a minor on allegations that she resumed having sex with the boy while awaiting sentencing on her earlier charge.
According to Newsday.com:
Acting on a tip, Rice’s investigators put the Massapequa woman, 25, under surveillance and found that she was still seeing the boy, and the victim later told prosecutors she had sex with him five times since the guilty plea.
Kennedy was arraigned today on the new charges.
The judge ordered Kennedy held on $52,000 cash bail, or $104,000 bond.
In addition to the possibility of a one year jail sentence on her guilty plea, Kennedy now faces the possibility of years in prison if convicted of the new charges.
03/13/09 – Sentencing
Heather Kennedy has been sentenced to 6 months in jail and will lose her teacher’s license.
Reportedly Kennedy will be registered as a level three sex offender.
03/14/09 – Heather Kennedy Jailed Again
Heather Kennedy, sentenced to jail Friday, was re-arrested Saturday on charges she wrote letters to the victim from jail, violating a court order.
Following her sentencing to 6 months in jail, Kennedy was released owing to time already served.
Authorities said they became aware Friday night that Kennedy had written the letters and they arrested her at her home at 2 a.m. Saturday morning on charges she violated a restraining order.
Kennedy was arraigned shortly after noon Saturday on three counts of criminal contempt
It’s unclear when or how cops learned about the letters that she allegedly wrote to the teenager from the county lockup.

I don’t understand why the kid couldn’t keep his mouth shut. As soon as I got home my excuse would already of been thought up. If he was smart he could of been nailing this teacher for the rest of his high school career. I would of been excited beyond belief just to have something so taboo and scandalous happening to me.
There’s also other advantages like having a professional reference when applying for college or your first job.
Kids just don’t think long term these day’s. :/

Well she should at least lose her job. From what I understand she was always hitting on male students. She is in a position of power over students, it’s like screwing your boss. Dont mix business and pleasure, it will bite you hard!!!

Hey knucklehead, it is an issue because of HER POSITION. The age thing…yeah, it’s pretty flaky. And remember, if the genders/ages were reversed, the older person being a guy…it’s treated differently.
Beyond all of that, her position as an authority figure in the lives of teens has been exploited. That’s the problem that folks have with it. We don’t want to send our kids off to school to have sexual relations with their teachers.

He is 16 practically the age of maturity and she is only 25. They are the same generation almost the same age. Is it really a big deal. You think this 16 year old will be scared from the experience or quite the contrary. Yes, it is against the law but does that really make it wrong. Think outside the box people. Someone who passes puberty as a 16 year old male is ready to engage in sexual intercourse and has to ability to consent to it with someone that is practically her age. I think he is too old and she is too young for this to be an issue.
