George Krenz, a 30-year-old former 9th-grade science and social studies teacher at Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, South Dakota was arraigned last Friday on three counts of fourth-degree rape, one count of sexual contact with a person younger than 16, and an alternate count of second-degree rape along with eight counts of providing alcohol to minors.

The alleged victims are 15 and 16 year-old students and the crimes are alleged to have taken place in late March and early April of this year and involve allegations that Krenz provided alcohol to the minors and then had sex with them in his home.
Krenz pleaded not guilty to all of the charges and requested a reduction in his $100,000 bond in order that he might return to Minnesota to live with his wife. The bond reduction request was denied.
Krenz started work in the Hot Springs School District at the start of the 2006-2007 school year and resigned on May 8.
His next court appearance is set for July 13th.
Update 7/14/07:

If it would have been the other way around, female teacher and male students, the sentence would have been probation. One or 2 years max is all he should have received if even that, not 15 years.
He was my 8th grade basketball coach… From what I knew of him in class he seemed like the coolest teacher in school… Guess not.
He used to be my teacher and he was a great guy. He did something wrong, but the maximum sentence?
I went to college with this guy. Reminds me of the time when he was an orientation leader for SDSU and when parents dropped off their kids he brought them back to our Fraternity house and had a party & served them alchohol. Needless to say we all paid for his lack of judgement in that case.
I see you are on this site too. There were no underage drinking charges except what George Krenz was charged with. I know that to be a fact. You don’t know what happened. You need to shut up. He’s in jail now for a long time.
I grew up with this guy and there is NO WAY this is true. These girls were bribed to bring the sex allegations against this teacher so their under age drinking charges would be dropped.– that’s the real story but you won’t see that publicised because it doesn’t sell as well. These small town people need to get a life and consider supervising their teenage girls instead of letting them run around thinking it’s cute to cry out rape.
