Fred Standifer Jr., 48, coach of the junior varsity girls basketball team at Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake, Florida has been arrested on charges of solicitation of sexual battery on a victim younger than 18, lewd conduct, false imprisonment and battery.

It is alleged that Standifer had touched two female players, ages 15 and 16, inappropriately several times between August to the present. Standifer came to the attention of authorities when one of the girls complained to a school resource officer.

One girl told investigators that Standifer locked her in a room and commanded her to pull her pants down and have sex with him and that he had touched her inappropriately on multiple occassions. The second girl said that Standifer had touched her buttocks and made improper statements to her.

Standifer works full time at a Department of Juvenile Justice halfway house and is paid to coach at the school. He does not teach any classes at the high school.

Bond for Standifer was set at $150,500 total.

1/30/08 - Released on Bail

Fred Standifer Jr. was released on $150,000 bail Friday.

09/22/08 - Guilty Plea To Lesser Charges

Today Fred Standifer Jr., in a plea deal with prosecutors, pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse and one count of false imprisonment.

Prosecutors dropped charges of attempted sexual battery and battery as part of the plea deal.

Also as part of the plea deal, prosecutors will recommend 10 years’ probation at Standifer’s sentencing which is set for November 7th.

Reportedly one of the victims was reluctant to testify at trial, which prompted the plea agreement.

Standifer will NOT be required to register as a sex offender, although the state can seek to impose restrictions to his probation, such as warrantless searches to ensure compliance with the terms of his probation and he will be barred from contacting either victim.

Reportedly Standifer will also be required to give up his teaching certificate.
