Fred David Johnson, 60, an English/Comp teacher for special education students at John Marshall High School, in Los Angles, California has been arrested and booked on suspicion of lewd acts with a child.
Johnson was arrested Monday and is being held on $800,000 bail.
Police and school officials are releasing few if any details at this time.
Reportedly some suspicious photos were found by school employees, who notified police.
Media reports have quoted a woman as saying that her autistic son, 17, saw the teacher taking pictures of “naked kids, his friends.”
Another woman was quoted in media reports as saying that the photos showed students ages 14 to 19 posing with swim trunks and towels and that the kids were just holding them up in the front, covering their private parts. Allegedly the students were naked.
There is also allegations by the witness that another photo shows a school staffer kissing a 15-year-old student on the lips.
Update 8/22/07:
News media reports indicate that Johnson has been charged with three felonies including oral copulation of an incompetent person, oral copulation of a person younger than 16 and performing a lewd act on a minor and six misdemeanors, including child molestation and battery on a dependent adult, involving two boys ages 14 and 18, a 19-year-old man, and one 17-year-old girl.
The crimes are alleged to have occurred between January and August of this year.
Johnson’s arraignment scheduled for today has been delayed until September 6th.
Update 9/06/07:
Fred David Johnson today entered not guilty pleas to to sex crimes involving four of his students.
Johnson is due back in court on October 16th for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
1/31/08 - No Contest Plea
Fred David Johnson pleaded no contest Wednesday to sex-related charges involving three students and battery of another.
Johnson has been ordered to undergo a 90 day diagnostic evaluation prior to sentencing which is set for April 29th. He faces a sentencing range from probation to six years in state prison.
05/21/08 - Sentencing
Fred Johnson was today sentenced to three years in state prison.
Superior Court Commissioner Henry J. Hall denied Johnson’s request for probation saying, “I don’t think probation is an appropriate sentence”.
