Eric Hawkins, 45, a former boys’ soccer coach at Rockford High School in Rockford, Minnesota and former youth soccer coach in Elk River, Minnesota has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the sexual assault of one of his former players.
Hawkins was convicted in January on charges of first and second-degree sexual assault in a case involving a girl who was 14-years-old when the sexual assaults began. During the trial, the victim’s tearful testimony reportedly had jurors squirming as she described her victimization.
Hawkins declined the judge’s offer to speak before the court on Friday however as Hawkins was escorted out of the courtroom he reportedly kicked a door and according to the victim’s father had a heated verbal exchange with his former attorney.
