Deanna Higgins, 27, a science teacher at Spring Independent High School in Spring, Texas has reportedly been charged on allegations of a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.
Reportedly, Higgins has been charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student and sexual assault of a child, both of which are second-degree felonies.
The DA’s office indicated that an arrest warrant for Higgins has been issued and she is expected to turn herself in to authorities within a few days.
Higgins came to the attention of school administrators and the Spring Independent School District Police Department when a third party brought allegations of an improper relationship between Higgins and a student to school officials in January, 2009. Higgins who has been employed at Spring High School since January, 2008 was reportedly placed on paid administrative leave.
School administrators have indicated that a second teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave while a separate investigation is conducted. No other details of this investigation have been released.
The school has made available a letter to parents which provides background information on this case.
10/14/09 – Case Update
Higgins came to the attention of authorities when her ex-husband allegedly found text messages from the student on Higgins’ cell phone, which Higgins had reportedly to her son before a weekend visitation with his father.
It is alleged that the alleged victim has told investigators that he had sex with Higgins at her home and inside his pickup truck, which at the time was parked outside Higgins’ home while her three children slept inside.
It is further alleged that Higgins left a pair of panties in the boy’s truck and that he has turned them over to investigators.
Defense attorney Troy McKinney has been quoted as saying, “Our position at this point is we regret that Spring ISD decided to jump the gun on this and file the charges without conducting a complete investigation. They have not done so.”
McKinney went on to say that he believes that ultimately, Higgins will be exonerated.

wow yall are suppose to be adults, yet yall are all ganging up on a “student”. he already is getting enough negative feedback from people at school, he doesnt need more ignorant people to criticize him! pretty sure yall know nothing about what really happened so yall have no room to judge! it takes two people to have sex, so blaming only one is pretty dumb, which yall obviously are!
i agree with you 100% justin i don’t see where the “student” believes talking here is going to do anything but hurt himself what a waste….the “student” i mean….screwing up a good thing for a good teacher

I go to Spring High School. I graduate this upcoming year, and honestly, everyone in my graduating class saw this coming. None of up were really all that shocked. She was young, and all of the guys thought she was the hottest thing alive, and honestly I’m surprised she only had an improper relationship with more than one guy at our school because she was extremely flirtacious as most people would say.
