David Allen Cherry, 38, a former computer technology teacher at Staunton River High School in Moneta, Virginia has been arrested and charged with three counts of sodomy and one count of indecent liberties with a minor.

The offenses for which Cherry is charged are alleged to have occurred with a female student in the fall of 2005.

Following his arrest Cherry was freed on $25,000 bond.

Cherry came to the attention of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office on October 1, 2007 by way of a complaint of possible improper conducted by a former teacher towards a former student at Staunton River High School.

2/28/08 - Preliminary Hearing

A preliminary hearing was held today for David Allen Cherry and he was bound over to the grand jury on four felony charges of taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial relationship. The grand jury will act on his case in April.

The alleged victim was the only witness at today’s hearing and she testified to four incidents of consensual sexual relations with Cherry between October and December 2005 with all of the alleged incidents taking place on school grounds.

Cherry remains free on $25,000 bond.
