Reportedly, Rothbard is charged with third-degree rape, third-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree criminal sexual act.
Rothbard came to the attention of authorities when a police officer allegedly caught him with a 15-year-old girl in his car and in “a partial state of undress” Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Westbrook Elementary School.
It is alleged that Rothbard was “in intercourse” with the girl and that he later admitted to police that the two were having sex when they were discovered by the officer.
Daniel Rothbard was freed on $5,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday at his arraignment.
Investigators are now looking into whether Rothbard had sexual relations with other girls he met online and are asking anyone with information regarding this case or other possible incidents involving Rothbard to contact detectives at the Suffolk County Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS
09/03/09 – Additional Charges Filed
Reportedly, Daniel Rothbard was arrested this morning and now faces new charges in Nassau on allegations of sexual misconduct with two underage friends of the first alleged victim.
The latest charges against Rothbard are the result of the investigation into the alleged rape of the 15-year-old in Suffolk. It is alleged that the crimes took place July 7 after Rothbard had contact with an underage girl through his MySpace page, and she and her friend went to West Islip to meet him.
Rothbard is to be arraigned today on the new charges at First District Court in Hempstead.
None of the three alleged victims were Robhbard’s students and all three are from Suffolk.
07/13/10 – Guilty Plea and Sentencing
On May 25th, Daniel A. Rothbard pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree criminal sex act with a victim under age 15.
Today, Rothbard was sentenced to two years in jail to be served concurrent with the 6 month jail sentence and 10 years probation the result of his earlier guilty plea to a charge of statutory rape in Suffolk last year.
Rothbard surrendered his teaching license and is classified as a Level Two sex offender in Suffolk County. His classification in Nassau will be determined 30 days before he is released.
Rothbard’s attorney says that Rothbard has already spent 11 months in a Suffolk County jail for statutory rape, which will count as time served toward his Nassau sentence. Rothbard’s lawyer expects that his client will be released from jail in four months for good behavior.
