Daniel Scott Markofski, 47, the principal of Spring Grove Elementary School in Spring Grove, Illinois has been arrested and charged with two counts of exposing a child to harmful material and sexual intercourse with a child age 16 or older.
Markofski allegedly took two teenage girls to a Wisconsin motel for pornographic movies, marijuana, cognac and sex over the weekend. It is further alleged that Markofski had sex with the 16-year-old while the 15-year-old was in the room.
Police say that Markofski accompanied by 15- and 16-year-old Wisconsin girls, ordered a porn movie after entering the Glendale, Wisconsin motel room. Authorities said the principal also provided wine coolers, marijuana and cognac to the girls who are reportedly from the Milwaukee area, rather than the Chicago-Spring Grove area.
It is alleged that Markofski met the 16-year-old girl through a phone chat line. Reportedly the 15-year-old is her cousin.
Markofski came to the attention of authorities when a Glendale, Wisconsin police officer on a routine community patrol was walking through the motel when he smelled marijuana coming from a room. When the officer entered the room he allegedly found a a boxer shorts-clad Markofski, the two girls and a porno playing loudly on the television.
Markofski was being held on $20,000 bond at the Milwaukee County Jail.
04/18/08 – Court Appearance
Daniel Markofski made a court appearance today and pleaded not guilty.
Markofski is free on $5,000 bond.
Nippersink District 2 school board fired Markofski on Tuesday.
09/16/08 – Guilty Plea
Daniel Markofski has pleaded guilty to two counts of exposing a child to harmful material and one of committing a sex act with a child 16 or older.
Sentencing is set for October 29th.
10/30/08 – Sentencing
Daniel Markofski has been sentenced to one year in prison.
After serving his prison sentence he will be on 18 months of extended supervision.
Markofski is required to register as a sex offender.

His sentence is too short! You have no clue the harm that this man has inflicted on the students, staff, and community members of the schools he has worked in. I hope he gets lots of loving from the other inmates. He finally pled guilty after he admitted to all the sick, deviant things he had done. WOW, what a concept! Why do you think his wife left him after all those years of marriage. God help him!
I am so glad that he finally pled guilty! WOW! What a concept after he already admitted what he had done. I think it is a sin that he is receiving so short of a sentence. Like I stated before I hope the other inmates get to know him reall well… on a personal level. The harm he has inflicted to the students and staff where he has worked is unmeasurable! He deserves all the loving he gets where he is going good luck. There is no room for sick, sexually deviant indiviuals like this in schools. period!
A Good Teacher, We are entitled to our opinion so why must you criticize us all the time. You don’t have to like what is written, but calling us names isn’t going to change our minds. In fact, your behavior in this forum is that of a not so good of teacher. More like a bad teacher, if you really are a teacher. Were you a bad bad teacher at one time and want to right your wrongs in this forum?
Pithy Opinioner – same idiot, different nick, huh? Everything’s a setup, right? The girl’s must be looking for a payday. Yeah – they’re just drooling to get a slice of that lucrative Teacher’s salary, right? Or maybe they just want the early model economy car he drives.
Or even better yet – a setup by the police. That’s it! The police took two underage girls, gave them marijuana, stuck them in a motel room with porn and had them lure an unsuspecting teacher to the room and then pounced. That makes sense to you?
I don’t know where you live but in most places in this country the police routinely patrol areas where there is known drug activity – namely Motels! Shocking, isn’t it!?
I wish you would think before you spew your ignorant opinion all over this website – you do nothing for decency by constantly downplaying the potential crime and casting blame on the victims.
This looks like a set-up to me. A cop just happens to walk by his room on “routine patrol”. Since when do cops get out of their cars and walk a beat. This BS. This (****) got set up big time. Poor schmuck. Might have even been the girls themselves…..looking for a payday down the line. Watch for the law suit. Way to go, girls. You got him good. I’m sure glad I don’t know you.

dont drop the soap, you know it is a shameful thing to knowing send a person to a place where you know he will be victimize, regardless of what the person may have done. Don’t get me wrong I am glad he got caught and is doing jail time, but I don’t think it is right that prisoners have that much control over our prisons.
I hope he has a pleaseant time in prison. We all know how sick pervert, sex offenders are loved in jail. Knowing what is going to happen to him there almsot make me feel better.
Wow, he was the assistant principal at my old school! There are rumors that he went phycho after his wife left him! He was so desperate for sex. He was so nice. Its disturbing big time. A few friends of mine and me used to go and eat lunch with him! I regret that! Alot of people looked up to that guy as a leader a role model, his speeches his kindness and there are NO words that can describe what he is now! Parents are disgusted.

my son is in this school and because we had moved to the area, we spent quite some time with him before school started, transferring records, getting my son situated, etc. He always gave me the willies for some reason. The kids all thought he was nice. Now I understand why he seemed to behave the way he did, he behaved like a teenager.
Before he moved to the Spring Grove area, he was a teacher in my school district. He actually lived three miles down the road from my house. I didn’t think he could fall quite this far…
