Daniel L. Harvey Sr., 41, a computer technology teacher at Delsea Regional High School in Franklin, New Jersey has reportedly been arrested on allegations of a months-long sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student.
Harvey is reportedly charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct for incidents that allegedly took place in Vineland beginning in October 2008.
Harvey came to the attention of authorities following a complaint from the alleged victim’s parents.
Harvey was arrested late Wednesday at his parents’ house, where he has reportedly been staying while in divorce proceedings with his wife. The couple reportedly has three children.
Police said they seized computers and cell phones from the student’s home and Harvey’s residence and that the investigation is on-going and additional charges may be filed.
Following his arrest, Harvey was initially held on $350,000 bail. At his initial court appearance, Harvey entered a plea of not guilty to all charges and the judge reduced his bail to $175,000 cash or bond. Reportedly, Harvey had not made bail as of Thursday night.
A school spokesperson said that Harvey has taught at the school since 2000 and that the school board is to decide next week whether to take preliminary disciplinary action against Harvey.
08/17/09 – Harvey Resigns
Reportedly, Daniel L. Harvey Sr. resigned last week and the Board of Education has accepted his resignation.
Harvey is reportedly free on $175,000 bond.

He should get more than ten years he’s been doing it for the 9 yrs he’s been there, most likely. he’s discusting, i would know I had him as a teacher for three years i even stuck up for him when he was acused of it. That was dumb He has been with WAY more teenage girls PROBABLY EVEN YOUNGER, than this one everyone knew about them but everyone was to scared or dumb to say anything eveyone would talk about when they thought he would get caught so it wasn’t a surprise AT ALL. I feel really bad for his wife she was very sweet and his son is adorable and very gifted at art. I feel bad for the other two also. He is so selfish and gross!

Bail will cost Harvey around $20K. A trial lawyer will cost him at least that much but probably more. The emotional damage done to him and his family {minus his wife} will be horrendous. It sounds like this man took too many chances and finally got caught by the girl’s parents. 17 may get him 10, but it seems like he was willing to take his chances.
