Dana I. Goodman, 38, principal of Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, Delaware has been arrested and charged with numerous counts alleging the rape and continual sexual abuse of a 17-year-old female student.
Following his arrest Goodman was being held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $331,000 cash bail on 30 counts of fourth-degree rape and continual sexual abuse of a child.
Goodman came to the attention of authorities by way of an anonymous letter received by school officials on Thursday. The letter indicated that Goodman and the alleged victim were seen together in various locations and not on school business.
When Goodman arrived at the school Friday morning he was met by police who questioned him and subsequently transported him to jail.
Police say that the sexual contact, which was consensual, began in the early part of January and that the last contact was approximately a week ago. Reportedly the alleged incidents occurred at various locations in Kent and Sussex counties, including in Goodman’s vehicle and various motels.
Goodman who has been the principal of Susses Central High School for the past two years has been suspended without pay, pending further action by the school board.
11/15/08 – Sentencing
Dana Goodman, who on September 3rd pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree rape and one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct has been sentenced.
Goodman clutching a Bible and speaking of his renewed Christian faith and saying “I made a mistake, and I’m truly sorry.” was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with all but four years suspended to be followed by six months of work release.
Goodman’s attorney had asked for probation or work release in light of Goodman’s educational background, lack of prior offenses and future potential.

hello friends on the shore,
the bad teacher youare refering to hasn’t always been that way. granted, some of character accountability needs to be addressed. I hope he reads and truely comprehends that “BIBLE”. he holds. We all have fallen short at times, I’m surently not impling his actions should not go un-punished. My peersonal recommendation, would include, professional purity counslling. I personally know alot of his personal history. not being involved in this matter I can only speak of his past.
I pray for those who where the victoms of such demeaning behavior and hope all families involved. Can recover mentally, physically and emotionally. I lift the school
district as a whole, to more forward in strength and wisdom.

He was my principal last year. He did a lot for the school, but he was cocky, full of himself, and would only remember the names of the football players. He would often make inappropriate comments, but this was unexpected. Unfortunately, this has happened again. The people of this site might want to look into what has recently happened with the social studies teacher John Thompson. He was my history teacher in my sophomore year. He was a much cooler guy, but obviously not very smart. Support Goodman and Know one Knows, just shut up. Jesus. Goodman was an administrator and was supposed to be setting an example. The humiliation that the girl must be feeling and will always have to deal with is punishment in itself. Yeah, she knew better, but it’s easy for young people to be influence by authority. Anyway, thanks to those two men, I now come from a school that will be known for its uncontrollable lust and rape, among other things. Yay.

The allegations are what they are,i sat in the same room as the man,he is very kind,but to act the way he did towards a minor in high school,especially since he is the principle,is repulsive.I am thoroughly disgusted with his unjust actions and think he got what he deserved.The point has been stated a couple times that the minor involved knew better but went through with it regardless.Some girls are sensitive and timid,and if you know what you’re doing you can sway them over,i think he manipulated this minor for his own benefit,and sorry for the cruel language,but used his balls rather than his brain.I am very disappointed in him for his actions,he did me a lot of good and helped me out when i needed it,and to see him go down this path is upsetting for me,but i am still disgusted,end of story.

Dana is a good person who like all of us has made some bad choices!! He just got caught. I’ve lived in Sussex County all my life and he is not the first principal or teacher from Sussex Central to have a relationship with a student. He just happens to be the one that people make a big stink about. Remember the Substitiute teacher who worked at the Highschool while a teacher was out on Medical leave, and his wife found a love note in his pants pocket. She then turned it into the police…….. So it does happen in Delaware and with the girls being the way they are these days….. There’s no wonder!!!!! It all stems back to the parents and the way they raise their kids. I’m not saying that these men are innocent but the girls also knew better!!!!!

I know Dana I. Goodman because he was my teacher in the 5th grade. He is a very intelligent person, and i think that he was set up. I know Mr. Goodman better than this and to have two kids that are little and a wife i knew for a fact that mr. Goodman was set up by the girl and the girls friends..Its crazy how nobody heard the words come out of the girls mouth that she was raped by mr. goodman, or abused in any kind of way. It seems to me that she wanted him and was out to get him. Now I dont know if he did it or not but the girl should do time as well. She knew what she was doin and she also did not stop anything that was going on if anything did happen to the fullest extent. I just want people to know that he was the best teacher I ever had. I know that in my heart he is an innocent person and I still love him.

A good teacher, you mentioned that the girl was only 17 and that made it against the law. Still, she knew exactly what she was doing. in 4 months she would turn 18. Does that mean in 4 months her total mentality changes and all of a sudden she knew right from wrong? No, she knew what she was doing. Dont get me wrong, this guy got what he deserved. But there are too many teens out there using sex to get their way. And then PRETEND like they have been violated. There should be laws out there that will punish the teens too.
