Cynthia Horvath, 45, a former English teacher and cheer coach at Warner Christian Academy in South Daytona, Florida has been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
Horvath came to the attention of authorities when a faculty member at the school overheard rumors of a relationship between Horvath and the boy. It is also reported that students told a school employee of the alleged relationship.
Reportedly a school administrator contacted the student’s father and the boy admitted to having a sexual relationship with Horvath.
During the course of the investigation, South Daytona police worked with the police departments in Port Orange and Daytona Beach as investigators believed that Horvath and the boy had sexual relations repeatedly over four month period, between June and September, and in various locations in multiple jurisdictions.
Police claim that Horvath was having sex with her student in her car, in a Wal-Mart parking lot, under a bridge, in hotels in Daytona Beach and all over Volusia County.
When the headmaster of the school confronted Horvath about the allegations she reportedly resigned.
Following her arrest today on charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, Horvath was initially held in the Volusia County Branch Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Both the Port Orange and Daytona Beach Police Departments have filed charges against Horvath with both sets of charges carrying $10,000 bond requirements.
According to the school web site Horvath is married with four children, at least some of whom attend or attended Warner Christian School, including a son who is reportedly a senior.
11/19/08 – Hormones Made Her Do It
The defense for Cynthia Horvath, facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted for sex with a minor, is offering up a defense of her hormones made her do it. Hormones along with unspecified mental conditions.
Papers filed in the case claim Hovath:
may not have known what she was doing was wrong because she was suffering from “severe hormone imbalances,” coupled with other mental conditions
11/26/08 – Continuance Granted
The attorney for Cynthia Horvath has sought and received a continuance for more time to prepare a hormone defense.
Horvath’s attorney said that she may not have been thinking clearly and was unable to tell the difference between right and wrong due to a hormonal imbalance which was possibly due in part to the onset of menopause and ovarian cysts.
The judge granted a 45 day continuance with the specification that the defense keep the state appraised of its findings.
02/27/09 – No Contest Plea and Sentencing
Cynthia Horvath has pleaded no contest to unlawful sex with a minor.
Horvath was sentenced to one year of community control, which equates to house arrest, to be followed by seven years of probation.
Horvath will reportedly be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Conditions imposed upon Horvath’s probation include surrendering her teaching license, she is not allowed to be with minor children except for her own and that she is not allowed to drive alone.
04/07/09 – Cynthia Horvath Arrested Again
Cynthia Horvath has been arrested again today.
She is now accused of accepting a “friend” request and chatting with a 16-year-old boy on Facebook.
Horvath was ordered not to have contact with minors when she was sentenced to a year of house arrest in February.
The “16-year-old boy” was in reality Sgt. Wayne Dorman of the Port Orange Police Department.
Following her latest arrest, Horvath was being held without bond in the Volusia County branch jail.
04/08/09 – Horvath Attorney Calls Arrest Pathetic
Horvath’s attorney, Aaron Delgado, saying that his client “has never been accused by anyone of being predatory, of hunting out victims”, has called the actions of Sgt. Wayne Dorman of the Port Orange Police Department “pathetic”.
Delgado also has been quoted as saying, “I hope the people of Port Orange know their police are spending their tax dollars targeting middle-aged women on Facebook. I think Port Orange police don’t have enough real work to do, apparently.”
Delgado said he would request that Horvath be freed on bail.
04/08/09 – Horvath Waives Court Appearance
Today, Cynthia Horvath waived an initial appearance before a judge, this while her attorney attempts to set up a bond hearing for his client.
Media reports are offering varying reasons for why Port Orange Police began the investigation/sting which resulted in Horvath’s latest arrest.
A My Fox Orlando report states:
Port Orange Police investigated Horvath again at the end of March after receiving a complaint that the former teacher was chatting with students of Facebook. Some of those claim to be current high school students, though their exact age is not shown.
A WESH TV report states:
Police said the investigation began on March 31 when a parent said her daughter noticed that Hovarth had a profile on Facebook with a photo of her and her family. The mother contacted police.
An Orlando Sentinel report states:
Port Orange police Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said a student at Warner Christian Academy, Horvath’s former employer, told her parents she discovered the sexual offender had befriended teenagers on the social-networking site.
04/16/09 – Cynthia Horvath Placed Under House Arrest
Cynthia Horvath was placed on house arrest today while she awaits a hearing on a charge she violated her probation.
Horvath is accused of violating her community control and placed under arrest for chatting with a child under 18. She actually was communicating with a Port Orange police detective posing as a minor.
Horvath’s attorney said that his client might have thought her teenage son who doesn’t live with her was trying to contact her on Facebook.
The judge prohibited Horvath from using the Internet or having contact with any minors, with the exception of her 10-year-old daughter who lives with Horvath and her husband while she awaits a hearing on her probation violation.
05/13/09 – Judge Rules In Favor of Cynthia Horvath
Today, Chief Circuit Judge J. David Walsh ruled that Cynthia Horvath’s activity on the social networking site Facebook was not a willful violation of the terms of her probation.
Horvath was allowed to return home and continue serving out her sentence of community control.
06/24/10 – Cynthia Horvath Request Kids Visits
Cynthia Horvath is seeking a judge’s permission to let her 11-year-old daughter have friends over.
In court documents, Horvath is asking for permission to allow supervised contact with friends of her daughter, so that the daughter may have friends over or so friends can attend events with the Horvath family.
No date for a hearing on Horvath’s request has been set.

I am inclined to go along with the hormone thing. This woman is the right age. One of my most prudish and conservative aunts, who was tragically widowed, got outrageously wild at a similiar age. I can’t condone the adultery, however. Back when I was married, I had a female coworker who couldn’t manage to keep from flirting and bumping and rubbing against me all the time. Every time I turned around, her mostly exposed breasts were making contact with me. Instead of cheating, I would rush home to my wife at the time and get after it. This woman should have worked with her husband, be it morners, nooners, afternoon delight, or whatever it took to get through this point in her life. Not having sex with teenagers. This lady broke the law. To any of the lucky punks that got their hands on this incredibly sexy lady, those are the rich memories that will keep you from being a bitter old man someday.

Cynthia Horvath is a total cheating pig and her husband is beyond pitful and wimpy for “Sticking By Her”.
It is a little fishy that her 17/18 year old son wouldn’t use his own name to contact his Mom. He for sure wouldn’t say he was 16. So if she really thought it was him, she is dumb as a post or hopped up on something that day. Why don’t she and her husband have custody of all the underage children now? That said, I admire the heck out of her husband for sticking by her and getting her mental help. I do understand how depression can make you do anything to make yourself feel better. It still doesn’t excusse what she did. But you know she did fess up and didn’t wase the state’s time and pleaded guilty pretty quickly in about five months. Her husband should probably have a joint email and facebook account with his wife and allow only that address for to monitor what she is doing. He should probably also get monitoring software on the computer to see what she is really doing. Maybe the PO should get a daily report too.

Another case of double standards. If a male teacher did the exact crime there is no way he would only get probabtion and then later to be caught violating the terms of probabtion! Also it seems like from the comments that this woman had a pattern. Advice to her husband – DIVORCE and never look back. She has been unfaithful for years and finally got caught. – You can’t make a (Expletive deleted by site moderator) a housewife!
