Craig Steven Bowen, 57, a former eighth grade social studies teacher and basketball and track coach at Rising Starr Middle School in Fayetteville, Georgia has been arrested on charges of aggravated sexual battery, child molestation and incest.
It is alleged that between 2000 and 2003 that Bowen has sexual contact with a female relative who was under the age of 16.
Bowen was initially charged with aggravated sexual battery. As the investigation progressed additional charges of child molestation and incest were added and police indicate that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
The school in a letter to parents indicated that Bowen was no longer employed by the school. Reportedly Bowen has resigned.
Following his arrest Bowen was reportedly being held in the Coweta County Jail.
10/28/08 – Jury Returns Guilty Verdict
Today a Coweta Superior Court jury found Craig Bowen guilty on four counts of child molestation for the sexual abuse of a female family member for a period of five years beginning when she was 5 or 6-years-old.
The judge sentenced Bowen, who had pleaded for mercy, to 20 years in prison with 15 years to serve and 5 years probation on each count with all sentences to run concurrently.
Bowen had turned down a plea deal offered by prosecutors under which he would have received a sentence of 20 years with 12 years to serve. In sentencing Bowen to the longer term the judge indicated that the longer sentence was justified as Bowen had put the victim through a trial.

everyone has dark secrets, he will get his share of counseling, on top of the embarrsment he will live the rest of his life. His family will likely abandon him and his friends will forget him. He’ll be alone for the rest of his life, it’s sad how people can’t control their urges, we all have temptation, i’s just the stronger who can overcome.
I barely new MR. Bowen while i was a student at Rising Starr (07-08) but wat i did know was that he was a terrific coach and a quiet guy. i would of never seen this coming, he coached my brother (Derrius M #35) on the basketball team in eighth grade, so i was around him alot, and he never said anythind or did anything perverted. but all i have to say to everybody is that leave him alone and try and put your selves in his situations. he needs support. i’m praying for you Mr. Bowen

Sorry, I know Mr. Bowen, and he is NOT the “poor guy” you may think he is. He is a predator, and I know this because he went after one of my female family members, someone who was about to be related to him. He admitted to his entire family what he did, and then and told them that the little girl [who he began molesting] at the age of SIX, didn’t do anything she didn’t want done. He’s sick, and I don’t care about how good a coach he was. SOCIOPATH!!!!!
I personally feel like Craig Bowen was a really great teacher. I had tons of fun with him on the Track Team. He always had the whole team laughing. Its hard to believe that this could actully happen, but then again a “small world” only excist in out dreams. I feel that God has everything happen for a reason. Mr. Bowen will get though this, and what doesnt kill you will only make you stronger.

People make assumptions too quickly … I wonder how many sociopaths are walking around. We need to overcome the stigma of mental health issues. These people need help, and don’t need to be made fun of.

Mr. Bowen was always looking for ways to improve us on the track team. Then one day our other coach told us that Mr. Bowen will not be the coach for the remander of the season but we didnt know why. Then the letter came home telling us that Mr. Bowen got arrested. We were all sad at first but then some people started to make jokes about it. This is not a laughing matter. I hope that this is not true but if it is then he made a huge miskake. I believe that GOD will get you through this. I am praying for you.

Sorry, you are all wrong about it being rumour he confessed. He admitted it. I know his family and I heard it from THEM. So, Chris, you are not telling the truth. I can’t say what I know because I was asked not to give out details. But know this. The man is a sociopath, and in my book. SCUM.

The fact I know from the family and the police is that no confession has been given and the investigation is on going. I never said he was innocent or guilty only that he has only been charged!! Yes police deal in facts but arrest on warrants based on allegations and circumstantial evidence and hear say. As in any case. Once again The same thing happened in your glorious Fayette county system with the SS teacher at White Water. Just let facts talk and crap walk. Don’t judge until everthing is out not the gossip spilling out here. (Retired PD)
