Clinton Douglas Smith, 38, of Willits, California a math and science teacher and girls’ soccer coach at the Willits Charter School has been arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old female student.
Smith was reportedly arrested on suspicion of committing lewd acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 16 years of age, oral copulation with a child under 16, and sexual penetration with a child under 16.
Smith reportedly came to the attention of police by way of notification by school administrators who became aware of allegations regarding Smith and the girl.
Reportedly Smith remains in the Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail with a court appearance set for tomorrow.
02/05/09 – Case Update
Clinton Douglas Smith, of Willits, was released on his own recognizance Thursday morning following a bail hearing in Mendocino County Superior Court in Willits.
Reportedly Smith is scheduled to enter a plea February 24th to charges of unlawful sex, lewd acts on a child, sexual penetration and oral copulation of a child under the age of 16, and intent of seduction.
04/08/09 – Guilty Plea
Reportedly, Clinton Douglas Smith pleaded guilty this week to one count of sex with a minor under the age of 16.
All other charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Sentencing is set for July 14 and Smith faces a maximum of four years in prison.
Following his guilty plea, Smith who has been on unpaid administrative leave was terminated by Willits Charter School.
08/05/09 – Sentencing
Clinton Douglas Smith has been sentenced to six months in the county jail and 36 months probation.
In addition he received a four-year suspended prison sentence that could be imposed if Smith violates his probation.
The judge delayed a decision on whether to require Brennan to register as a sex offender until the end of his probation.

norcal13 (Deleted by site moderator) 13 times over. So you thought he’d get away with it. Child molestation is taken VERY seriously in literally EVERYWHERE. In the past it wasn’t, because the burden of proof was much higher, but there is almost no burden of proof these days.

I am not shocked by this. Darrell McNeill abused boys in Fort Bragg for decades. It was reported to the police several times. Sexually explicit photos of some of his victims were even brought to the police. They did NOTHING. They didn’t even question McNeill, who stalked and harassed his victims. Willitslady you should have your head examined. The you girl may very well be “sexually foward” for her age. It doesn’t matter, Clint knew the girls home situation and should have recognized a troubled young girl crying out for help. He was her teacher, mentor and role model. He should have immediately spoke with school administrators and seeked counselling for the girl the second he felt she had an unhealthy attachement to him. Young girls develop crushed on the teacher everyday, especially troubled young girls. He didn’t do what any resonsible, moral adult would do, he took advantage of her and her situation, period! He has caused irreparable harm to the girl, her family, his wife and his childern. There is no excuse for him and he should have been cuffed and dragged off to prison immediately. Instead he was let go on his own recog. and ordered to turn himself in to serve his 6 month term in County. What a joke!
And to all the parents and teachers in support of this man. You should be ashamed of yourselfs. Teachers, your teaching credentials should be revoked. Parents, whould you be standing by him if it was your 15 y/o daughter? Doubtful. And Willits in general, you should be calling for his head on a platter, along with his genitals.
This man may not be a threat, but I knowing him and his family for many years would never have thought he would do something this terrible. I am so sorry to the girl and her family. I am also sorry for his wife and 2 daughters, but I wish and think that they should have given Clint the most hardest sentance that they could have. I am also sorry for Willits and for all of our children.
Clint had at least 20 teachers in support of him during his sentance. How sad.
I am appalled and saddened to hear the outcome of this case. Even more horrified to hear comments that this man is not a predator. This so called teacher, husband, and father to a young girl himself had sex with a 14 year old girl for a year! These are the type of role models we entrust with our children on a daily basis. The Final Blow, six months in jail, and not have to register as a sex offender! I am sorry for this young girl and her family.
I went to school with this guy back in 80’s and knew there was something wrong with him. Any person in an authoritative position that takes advantage of the innocence of youth should be punished. Sick in the head if this sort of thing turns them on. Men who do this should be castrated! F@#$%ers!
I knew this guy for many years and this was a real shocker. However, I can say that besides blowing it BIG TIME and being a total idiot, he is not a predatory threat. Cases like this are tossed in the same cultural pile as pedophelia, which to me is a whole different creature and the wrong way of thinking about the issues involved. What he did was wrong in many ways, but I know the girl in question, who was 15 at the time, and she came across as a very sexually forward person, acting generally several years older than she was as many teens do these days. He has a huge base of people in Willits that have supported him with letters to the judge, and I agree with these letters; He screwed up, he dishonered his post and took advantage of a 15 year old, BUT he is not a run-away threat nor is he a threat to the community or their children. He should not (and will not) teach or coach ever again, but he is otherwise a good dad and a decent person. And yes, I’ll take that $20 bet, or any amount you name. He is trying to put his life back together as I am sure the girls family is. Thinking with the wrong head, what a fool…

I doubt he’ll run for it. This guy was MY math and science teacher back in Middle school. Can’t believe what a creep he turned out to be, he always seemed pretty cool… I still don’t think he’d run though, he doesn’t have the (Deleted by site moderator) for that.
