Bad Bad Teacher

Christel C. Gravlin, 33, a 10th-grade English teacher at Lisbon Central School in Lisbon, New York turned herself to face charges alleging sexual contact with a 15 year old male student.

Reportedly the alleged affair became known after an incident at a high school basketball game on November 30th when Gravlin made statements about an affair to a group of students and others who were sitting near her.

The sexual activity is alleged to have taken place in Gravlin’s home on November 25th and includes sexual intercourse.

Gravlin is a married mother of two and is a former beauty queen in St. Lawrence County.

2/21/08 - Plea Deal Offered

Prosecutors have offered Christel Gravlin a plea deal under which she was asked to plea to one count of rape in the third degree and face a sentence of one to four years in a state prison, jail or possibly probation.

Gravlin’s next court date is set for March 3rd.

3/03/08 - Guilty Plea

Christel Gravlin pleaded guilty today to one count of 3rd-degree rape.

As part of the plea deal she will be sentenced to no more than six months in jail followed by ten years probation.

Formal sentencing is set for May 5th.

05/05/08 - Sentencing Postponed

Formal sentencing of Christel Gravlin which was set for today has been postponed until May 19th.

The delay was due to Gravlin’s attorney gathering more information which may be of use in the sentencing hearing.

05/19/08 - Sentencing

Christel Gravlin has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, 10 years probation and $1,300 in court surcharges.

On June 23rd a hearing will be held to determine whether Gravlin gets listed as a level 1, 2 or 3 sex offender.

06/23/08 - Sex Offender Status Hearing

Christel C. Gravlin has been designated a Level 1 Sex Offender, the lowest rating possible.

The judge cited “clear and convincing evidence” that she was not a risk to be a repeat offender, indicating that she has been undergoing drug counseling and psychiatric treatment since the case came to light.
