Charles Milton Lewis Jr., 49, a sixth-grade teacher at Causey Middle School in Mobile, Alabama has reportedly been arrested on allegations of the sexual abuse of a 9-year-old boy.

Reportedly, Lewis is charged with sex abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the victim is a “family friend,” not a student at the school.
The boy told investigators that the incident occurred in Lewis’ home during July of last year when Lewis allegedly offered him alcohol and inappropriately touched him.
According to the sheriff’s office press release, Lewis admitted to touching the child but insisted it was not intentional.
Lewis came to the attention of police when the alleged victim told his mom about the incident when he overheard her on the phone talking about Lewis being arrested for drinking and asked his mother about the Lewis drinking incident, then told her about the alleged sex abuse.
Lewis is on indefinite paid administrative leave from the Mobile County School System.
Reportedly, Lewis was named 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year at Causey Middle School.
Lewis was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center and was being held without bond.
01/14/10 – Prior Complaint Surfaces
A parent’s complaint that Charles Lewis Jr. exposed himself to her son has surfaced.
As has a report of Lewis being busted for driving drunk on his way to a teacher work session at school January 4th.
Reportedly, Lewis remains jailed in lieu of $60,000 bond, set Wednesday.
02/17/10 – Case Update
The attorney for Charles Lewis has asked for a continuance in the drunk driving case and Baldwin County District Court Judge Michelle Thomason granted the request scheduling a bench trial for March 17.
On Thursday a preliminary hearing is scheduled in the sexual abuse case.
02/18/10 – Preliminary Hearing
A preliminary hearing was held today for Charles Lewis.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Susan Gross testified and revealed details of the accusations against Lewis.
According to a FoxTv10 report:
According to Investigator Gross, the boy said Lewis touched his privates inappropriately on a pull out couch. The boy said when he refused, Lewis grabbed the boy’s hand and forced it on himself.
The judge decided to send the case to the grand jury which will decide what charges, if any, are appropriate.
Lewis’ attorney, John Beck was quoted in the FoxTV10 report as stating:
“We are dismayed that the officer had apparently made up her mind to arrest Lewis before even talking to him. He adamantly denies these allegations and we look forward to our day in court.”
