Smith, 28, a former girls basketball coach at Delight High School in Delight, Arkansas has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with six years suspended following his guilty plea to first-degree sexual assault in a case involving a 14-year-old team member.
Smith, who was at the time a first-year employee of the Delight School District, was charged in March 2007.
It was alleged that the girl had oral sexual relations with the coach between October 1, 2006 and March 5, 2007.
Smith who turned himself in which charged was subsequently released on $50,000 to await trial which was postponed multiple times.
Smith will be required to serve at least two years of his sentence before being eligible for parole and will be required to register as a sex offender.
