Douglas E. Hunt, an art teacher at Shepherdstown Elementary School in Shepherdstown, West Virginia and boys varsity soccer coach at Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, has been charged in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia with enticement of a minor and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
Hunt’s arrest was the result of an Internet sting targeting individuals seeking sex with children.
Hunt allegedly answered an ad on craigslist.org that said “my2 gurls and me – 99″ (ctown/leesburg/hf).” A meeting was set up in nearby Loudon County, Virginia with underage girls for sex.
Hunt was arrested after arriving in the parking lot of a designated hotel for the meeting and paying an undercover officer $220.
It is further alleged that Hunt intended to have have oral sex and vaginal intercourse with two individuals he believed to be 12- and 13 year-old girls.
According to school officials, Hunt was arrested December 4th in Virginia and the charges against Hunt did not involve a student from Jefferson County Schools and that Hunt has not been at the school since early December and is not expected to return to the school.
Hunt has been with Jefferson County Schools for 11 years.
Reportedly Hunt was being held in a federal facility in Virginia and reportedly has been denied bond.
01/13/09 – Hunt Suspended By School Board
On Monday night the Jefferson County school board voted to suspend Douglas Hunt, revoke his pay, remove him from all contract obligations and prohibit him from school property.
02/27/09 – Guilty Plea
Douglas E. Hunt has pleaded guilty to sexual enticement of a minor.
Sentencing is set for May 22 and Hunt faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years.
Following his prison sentence Hunt will remain under court supervision for a term of at least five years to life, will be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction in which he lives, works or attends school and is required to surrender any teaching license he holds.
05/22/09 – Sentencing
Douglas Hunt was sentenced today in federal court to 10 years in prison for traveling to Leesburg with the intent of having sexual encounters with two girls, ages 12 and 13.
Hunt was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised probation following his release from prison and will be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction where he lives, works or attends school.
