McKell Shurtliff

McKell Shurtliff, 23, a former assistant softball coach at Payson High School in Payson, Utah has been arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl on the team.
Reportedly, Shurtliff is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, which is a third-degree felony.
It is alleged that Shurtliff engaged in a three-month sexual relationship with the girl beginning in March, 2008 and that there were multiple sexual encounters which occurred within that time frame.
It is further alleged that Shurtliff admitted to the relationship and sexual encounters, telling police she knew it was wrong, but she loved the victim.
Following her arrest, Shurtliff was reportedly being held in the Utah County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
Shurtliff was reportedly “released” by the school, at the time the investigation into the allegations began in the fall of 2008.
10/08/09 – Guilty Plea To Lesser Charge
In a plea deal with prosecutors, McKell Shurtliff has reportedly pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of lewdness involving a child.
In return, prosecutors dropped two felony counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and a felony count lewdness involving a child.
Sentencing is set for November 17th and Shurtliff faces a maximum of one year in jail.
11/18/09 – Sentencing
McKell Shurtliff has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and two years of probation.
Shurtliff is also required to complete sex-offender treatment and will be on the state sex-offender registry for 10 years.
