David Howard Hodges, 62, who prior to retirement taught technology at Switzerland Point Middle School, in St. Johns, Florida has reportedly been arrested in Pennsylvania on allegations that he raped a 10-year-old girl there last summer.

Reportedly, Hodges is charged with first-degree felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor, rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and aggravated indecent assault.

Hodges is also reportedly charged with third-degree felony counts of indecent assault and endangering a child’s welfare and a first-degree misdemeanor count of corruption of a minor.

Hodges turned himself in to authorities in Scranton, Pennsylvania after a yearlong investigation into the allegations.

Allegedly the crimes were committed in Pennsylvania last summer while Hodges was visiting family members.

Reportedly, Hodges told police that the girl was having trouble sleeping so he gave her a fourth of an anti-anxiety pill and they both got into the same bed.

The criminal complaint indicates that Hodges thought she was sleeping when he pulled down her pajama bottoms, inappropriately touched her, had intercourse with her and performed oral sex on her.

Reportedly, the girl told her parents what allegedly happened, and they took her to a hospital in Scranton to be examined. The girl was interviewed and her clothing was seized as evidence.

Reportedly, DNA testing was conducted on saliva found on the girl’s underwear, but the sample was not conclusive.

Following his arrest, Hodges was freed on $50,000 bond.

Hodges, through his attorney, has denied all charges.

John Francis Pertuit, 35, an Electronics/CIT teacher at Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Arizona and a martial arts instructor on the side has been arrested and charged with six counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Police say they received a tip that Pertuit had been sexually involved with students he met while a teacher at the high school as well as an instructor at his martial arts business.

Reportedly Pertuit, who was arrested at the school, has been placed on administrative leave by school officials.

Bond for Pertuit was set in the amount of $75,000 cash.

02/25/09 – Additional Information

Pertuit, who has reportedly worked at the school since 2000, rents the school gym for his martial arts business, called KIKS American Karate.

The two alleged victims, ages 15 and 16-years-old are students of Pertuit’s at both the high school and the karate school.

Investigators served a search warrant on Pertuit’s home in order to secure evidence showing the two alleged victims were his students.

Police say that none of the alleged crimes is believed to have been committed on school grounds and that the alleged sexual intercourse appears to have been consensual.

Pertuit was the subject of a police investigation into similar charges in 2007 but the case was closed because the girl involved was uncooperative and refused to provide a statement to police.

03/17/09 – Court Appearance

John Pertuit has made a court appearance and entered a not guilty plea to all charges.

His attorney requested a hearing on March 24 to determine whether Pertuit’s bail should be lowered.

Pertuit remains jailed in lieu of bond and will be back in court on April 13th.

07/15/09 – Trial Date Set

A trial date of December 8th has been set for John Pertuit.

Pertuit’s attorney says a plea deal is being negotiated.

Jonathan Zahra, 25, a technology specialist in the Plainville, Connecticut public school system has been arrested on allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.

Zahara, who reportedly worked at all the Plainville schools, is reported to be charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and seven counts of impairing the morals of a minor.

Since his arrest on Friday, Zahra has been held in custody in lieu of $750,000 bond. On Monday Zahra’s attorney, Stephen Anderson, requested a more “reasonable” bond, however his request was denied.

It is alleged that from July through September, 2008 Zahra was sexually involved with a child under the age of 16 and who lives in Plainville. No other alleged victim information was released, except that the alleged victim is a child that Zahra knew.

Police also say that there is a related investigation being conducted by federal authorities.

Plainville Superintendent of Schools Kathleen Binkowski said Zahra has been on paid administrative leave since March 9, when the school first learned of the investigation into the allegations against Zahra.
