Stanley William Deloach, Jr., 48, a former teacher at Forest Middle School, in Bedford County, Virginia has been arrested on charges of possession of sexually explicit items involving children and use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

Deloach was allegedly caught up in an internet sex sting operated by Virginia State Police.

Deloach is being held without bond and police are asking for anyone with information on him to contact them at 434-534-9521.

Update 7/17/07:

New information has come available from the search warrant for Stanley DeLoach’s home.

Update 9/12/07:

Stanley William Deloach Jr. has waved his right to a preliminary hearing.

His case will now go before a grand jury on October 15. The grand jury will then decide if it is a true bill or not. A true bill means Deloach will proceed to trial, no true bill means he will be freed.

05/07/08 - Guilty Plea

Stanley Deloach today pleaded guilty to 12 felony child pornography charges.

He faces a maximum sentence of 110 years in prison if the maximum penalty is imposed on all the charges.

Sentencing is set for August 5th.

11/04/08 - Sentencing

Stanley William Deloach Jr. has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Following his prison sentence Deloach will reportedly be on supervised probation for three years and regular probation for an additional 17 years.

Deloach will be required to register as a sex offender.

Eric Scott Newman, 26, a former technical drawing teacher at Millbrook High School in Winchester, Virginia has been charged with one count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or person in position of trust to a child.

It is alleged that Newman had a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student at his home in Hedgesville, West Virginia. Newman also allegedly had sexually explicit conversations with a 16-year-old student who emailed him nude photographs of herself.

Newman came to the attention of authorities when an individual contacted them and said that his ex-girlfriend was having inappropriate contact with her school teacher. A sheriff’s department investigator spoke with the 16-year-old girl who said that she had been in contact to Newman via telephone, text messages and computer emails and that she sent several naked pictures of herself to Newman’s email address.

The 17-year-old told investigators that on February 3 she met Newman on a parking lot in Hedgesville and from there traveled with Newman to his home where they watched movies, they began kissing and Newman had contact of a sexual nature with her until his wife called and said that she would be late from work.

The investigation of Newman and his arrest was the result of a combined effort on the part of the Berkeley County (West Virginia) and Frederick County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Departments and Virginia Child Protective Services.

Following his arraignment, Newman was released on Bond. He faces from one to five years in prison if convicted.

10/23/08 - Newman Indicted By West Virginia Grand Jury

A Berkeley County Circuit Court grand jury in Martinsburg, West Virginia has indicted Eric Newman on one count each of sexual abuse by a custodian or other person in a position of trust and soliciting a minor via a computer.

Newman is accused of having improper contact with two Millbrook students, who were 16 and 17 at the time, from January to March 2007.

10/30/08 - Guilty Plea in Frederick County

On October 23, Eric Scott Newman pleaded guilty in Frederick County Circuit Court to an amended misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped two solicitation charges and amended the obscenity charge to the contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge.

As a result of his guilty plea, Newman was sentenced to a year in jail, with all but 90 days suspended and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

As a result of his guilty plea in Frederick County, Newman will apparently not be required to register as a sex offender.

Newman is still facing criminal charges in Berkeley County where he was indicted on felony charges of sexual abuse by a custodian or other person of trust and soliciting a minor on the computer.

Arraignment on these charges is pending.

John Walter Hawthorne, 42, of Soquel, California, a teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy in Salinas, California was to have a preliminary hearing Friday on eight felony counts of lewd acts with a child. Instead prosecutors made new allegations of child molestation and possession of child pornography against Hawthorne.

Hawthorne, free on $800,000 bond since his April arraignment, was immediately returned to jail pending a new bond hearing on the additional charges. Charges which surprised both Hawthorne and his attorney.

The original charges involved allegations that Hawthorne improperly touched five female students a total of eight times. The new allegations increase the number of alleged victims to 13 and the number of alleged child molestation offenses to 18, while adding 20 counts alleging possession of child pornography. The alleged victims are 10 - 11 years-old.

Hawthorne who has reportedly taught in the school district for 11 years now faces 15 felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, three misdemeanor counts of child molestation and 20 felony counts of possessing child pornography. If convicted of all charges he faces up to life in prison.

The new allegations of child molestation and possession of child pornography are the result of further investigation since Hawthorne’s arrest in April of this year and involve both additional victims as well as additional alleged offenses against the first set of victims.

Hawthorne who will appear in court for new bail hearing on August 7th and for a preliminary hearing on August 17th has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Update 8/08/07:

Judge Lydia Villarreal increased Hawthorne’s bail Tuesday to $2 million based on a prosecution motion which claims that Hawthorne used Photoshop software to cut and paste digital photos of female students onto pornographic images he downloaded from the Internet, that some of the 13 students Hawthorne allegedly molested since 2003 were from Virginia Rocca Barton Elementary School and that investigators found thousands of pornographic images of prepubescent girls when examining Hawthorne’s computer equipment.

09/04/08 - Guilty Plea

John Hawthorne pleaded guilty today to eight counts of child molestation, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

According to TheCalifornian.com:

The District Attorney’s Office said 43-year-old John Hawthorne, from 2003 through early 2004, molested “a number of students” at two different elementary schools — Martin Luther King Jr. Academy and Virginia Rocca Barton Elementary School. At the time of his arrest last year, Hawthorne was an instructor at Martin Luther elementary school.

As part of the plea deal, Hawthorne faces a minimum prison sentence of 6 years and a maximum sentence of 16 years.

Hawthorne will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Formal sentencing for Hawthorne is set for October 24th.

10/24/08 - Sentencing

John Hawthorne was sentenced this afternoon to 10 years and eight months in prison.

Hawthorne was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Chad Michael Hutchins, of Forney, Texas and a former teacher in the Sunnyvale, Texas school district has been arrested on charges alleging the possession of child pornography.

Hutchins came to the attention of authorities when “someone close to him” provided a tip to police that Hutchins had the material.

Hutchins whose contract with the school system was not renewed was held on $50,000 bail following his arrest.

10/10/08 - Sentencing

Chad Michael Hutchins, who pleaded guilty in May, was sentenced today to 10 years in federal prison on a possession of child pornography count.

His prison sentence will be followed by 15 years of supervised release.

Hutchins will be required to register as a sex offender.

David Wakefield Hassler, 62, a religious studies teacher at Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus in Pasadena, California has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

Hassler’s arrest came about as a result of Operation Predator, an ongoing probe by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) into the downloading of child pornography off the Internet.

When federal and local officers executed a search warrant on Hassler’s South Pasadena residence they allegedly found numerous printed images of child pornography.

Currently Hassler has been charged with possession of child pornography. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.

Hassler has been placed on administrative leave by the Mayfield Senior School administration.

Also arrested in the child pornography sweep was Kenneth Kothe, 61, a first-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Lynwood, California.

1/23/08 - Not Guilty Plea

David Hassler entered a not guilty plea to one count of possession of child pornography during an arraignment on Tuesday.

10/06/08 - Guilty Plea

Today, David Hassler pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing child pornography.

Sentencing is set for January 26th and Hassler faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
