Timothy Lynn Brumit, an English teacher at Batesburg-Leesville High School in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina has reportedly been charged in federal court with distributing child pornography and soliciting sex from a minor over the Internet.

Brumit was snared in an on-line sting operated by Dumfries, Virginia Police. A sting in which a police officer was posing as a 13-year-old boy. The officer indicated that during the on-line conversations between himself and Brumit that the man sent to him numerous pictures and vidoes of young boys engaged in various sexual acts.

It is also alleged that Brumit stated that he wanted to pick up the boy in Virginia and take him back to South Carolina to live with him for the purposes of engaging in a sexual relationship.

Brumit who is set to be arraigned next week is also reportedly a Baptist minister having previously worked as a pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina.

Reportedly Brumit taught in Aiken School District in 2000, McCormick School District from 2001 to 2005 and the Allendale School District from 2005 to 2007.

Brumit is currently on paid administrative leave from the school system.

1/29/08 - Court Appearance

Timothy Brumit made an appearance before a federal judge today and was ordered held until he faces trial.

Assistant US Attorney Dean Eichelberger said of the child pornography allegedly discovered on Brumit’s home computer:

“Those images ran the gamut. Unfortunately, it goes down to single digit infants being subjected to some pretty horrific sexual acts. This is very extreme pornography. Well, it’s not even pornography. It’s a visual record of the rape of a child.“.

Reportedly the case of Timothy Lynn Brumit will be moved to eastern Virginia were a grand jury awaits.

3/13/08 - Guilty Plea

Timothy Lynn Brumit today pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to entice a person he believed to be a 13-year-old boy to engage in illicit sexual conduct and to transporting child pornography, via the Internet.

Brumit, who will be sentenced on June 6, 2008, faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of ten years and a maximum sentence of life on the child enticement charge.

06/18/09 - Sentencing

Timothy Brumit has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Following the completion of his prison sentence Brumit will remain under court supervision for the rest of his life and will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives, works, or goes to school.

Janet Fackovec, 25, a teaching assistant for special needs students at Stall High School, in North Charleston, South Carolina has been arrested on allegations that she had sex with a student and contributed to the delinquency of a minor.

Fackovec was arrested Thursday at the school and school administrators were reportedly unaware of both the allegations against Fackovec and her pending arrest by the North Charleston Police Department.

Fackovec who has worked at Stall High School as a teacher’s aid since September of 2006 has reportedly been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation and criminal case.

Very little information has been released regarding the alleged victim, other than the fact that it is a male teenager and his is reportedly in in the custody of the Department of Social Services and in another part of the state.

Fackovec who has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor is scheduled for a bond hearing today.

Update 10/19/07:

Janet Fackovec has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Charleston County and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Dorchester County.

Fackovec is not charged with any criminal sexual charges, reportedly owing to the fact that the boy was 16-years-old.

The Charleston County magistrate set Fackovec’s bond at $30,000, and ordered her to stay away from anyone under 18 years of age. Fackovec appeared in North Charleston Municipal Court Thursday night to answer to the Dorchester County charge. No additional info is available on any bond amount there.

04/30/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Janet Fackovec has plead guilty to two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

As a result of her guilty plea Fackovec received a six year jail sentence with all but 90 days suspended. She was given credit for time served meaning she will spend a total of 84 days in jail.

Tracy Lee Judy, 37, a teacher at Forest Circle Middle School in Walterboro, South Carolina has reportedly been arrested on a charge of criminal solicitation of a minor and criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

It is alleged that Judy had a relationship with a 15-year-old female student.

Following his arrest Judy was reportedly being held in the Colleton County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Jay Bradley McJunkin, a former math teacher and cross country coach at Palmetto High School, in Williamston, South Carolina has pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd act on a minor.

McJunkin was scheduled to go to trail today, however he pleaded guilty before the trial started.

Reportedly McJunkin was alleged to have sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy. The sexual assaults allegedly occurred between the summer of 2003 and March 2004.

The crimes were alleged to have taken place in Anderson and Pickens counties. McJunkin’s wife is one of the assistant solicitors in Anderson County.

McJunkin was originally charged with five counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of lewd act with a minor.

2/19/08 - Sentencing

Jay Bradley McJunkin has been sentenced to two years in prison as a result of his guilty plea in September to two counts of lewd act on a minor.

The judge actually gave McJunkin a 15-year sentence, but suspended it to two years.

In addition to the prison sentence McJunkin must also undergo counseling, register as a sex offender and pay restitution for medical and counseling expenses of his victims.

Allenna Williams Ward, 24, the daughter of a minister and a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, South Carolina was indicted on five counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and six counts of lewd acts on a minor.

Ward is accused of the sexual abuse of five boys all 14 or 15-years-old some of whom were students at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, where Ward taught until she was fired on February, 28.

Ward is reportedly a 2001 graduate of Clinton High School and a 2005 graduate of Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education who had taught at the Bell Street Middle School for one year.

She came to the attention of police after a note containing inappropriate messages was given to school officials after being passed during class to one of the boys, then thrown in the trash and later retrieved.

Ward is alleged to have engaged in sexual activities with the boys since December 2006 and allegedly engaged in these sex acts at the Bell Street Middle School, in a parked car, at the Clinton Motel, behind the Clock Restaurant and in the Laurens City Park.

Following her arrest Ward was released on $110,000 bond, placed on house arrest and prohibited from contacting any of the victims or using a cellphone.

Racial overtones are further inflaming this already high profile case owing to the fact that all of Ward’s alleged victims are African-American boys. Some members of the Black community are voicing the view that a double standard is being applied in the Ward case owing to the fact that she is white. Some members of the white community are up in arms primarily owing to the bi-racial implications of the case.

9/06/07 - Guilty Plea

Allenna Williams Ward has pleaded guilty to to having sex with at least five students.

Ward pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of lewd acts on a minor. Ward admitted that she had sex with at least five boys, three 14-year-olds, and two 15-year-olds in cars, parks, a hotel and at the school.

Reportedly Ward apologized to the victims’ families the community, and the school.

It was also reported that, prosecutors read from Ward’s personal journal, which described her personal struggle with what she was doing. Ward wrote that she knew what she was doing wrong, but couldn’t stop.

No formal sentencing date was set today, however Ward faces the possibility of up to 105 years in prison. The judge ordered a pre-sentencing report which will take several weeks to complete. While awaiting sentencing Ward will remain out of jail and under house arrest.

2/19/08 - Sentencing

Allenna Williams Ward was today sentenced to six years in prison.

Ward was actually sentenced to 15 years in prison for each lewd act count, with the sentences to run concurrently and with each suspended to 6 years in prison, the same sentence handed down on the other counts.

During a brief statement at her sentencing Ward said, “I deeply regret betraying the families’ trust.”

Both Ward and her father, a minister, asked the community for forgiveness.

Following her sentencing Ward was handcuffed and led from the courtroom.
