Joseph Tracy Garner, 42, a social studies teacher at Ontario High School in Ontario, Oregon has been arrested and charged with seven counts of online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree.

Garner’s arrest came after a three month investigation which began when a private group conducting an Internet sting operation notified authorities that a person had used MySpace to contact and initiate explicit and, at times, graphic conversations of a sexual nature with a purported 13-year-old Oregon girl who was in reality a trained adult decoy.

It is further alleged that Garner tried to arrange a physical meeting with the girl for the purposes of having sexual contact.

Oregon State Police were allegedly able to trace the internet communications back to Garner’s account. It has also been reported that during one of the online conversations that Garner sent a school picture of himself to the decoy.

A school spokesperson says that Garner has resigned in the wake of his arrest.

09/21/08 - Guilty Plea

On Friday, Joseph Tracy Garner pleaded guilty to seven counts of online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree.

Sentencing is set for November 3rd.

Garner is considered a candidate for probation provided he complies with various stipulations between his guilty plea and sentencing date.

11/04/08 - Sentencing

Joseph Garner has been sentenced to 30 days of work crew and 36 months supervised probation.

He was also ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program and prohibited any Internet access.

Garner was also accessed a $1,500 fine, $1,000 of which was suspended.

Garner must register as a sex offender.

Craig Steven Bowen, 57, a former eighth grade social studies teacher and basketball and track coach at Rising Starr Middle School in Fayetteville, Georgia has been arrested on charges of aggravated sexual battery, child molestation and incest.

It is alleged that between 2000 and 2003 that Bowen has sexual contact with a female relative who was under the age of 16.

Bowen was initially charged with aggravated sexual battery. As the investigation progressed additional charges of child molestation and incest were added and police indicate that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

The school in a letter to parents indicated that Bowen was no longer employed by the school. Reportedly Bowen has resigned.

Following his arrest Bowen was reportedly being held in the Coweta County Jail.

10/28/08 - Jury Returns Guilty Verdict

Today a Coweta Superior Court jury found Craig Bowen guilty on four counts of child molestation for the sexual abuse of a female family member for a period of five years beginning when she was 5 or 6-years-old.

The judge sentenced Bowen, who had pleaded for mercy, to 20 years in prison with 15 years to serve and 5 years probation on each count with all sentences to run concurrently.

Bowen had turned down a plea deal offered by prosecutors under which he would have received a sentence of 20 years with 12 years to serve. In sentencing Bowen to the longer term the judge indicated that the longer sentence was justified as Bowen had put the victim through a trial.

Christopher Joseph Watson, 38, a former social studies teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been arrested and booked into Parish Prison on a charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Watson and Nathan Daniel Boyes, 26, a physical education teacher at the school, are alleged to have been communicating via sexually explicit e-mail and text messages with a 16-year-old female student of the school.

Reportedly Watson left the Louisiana school for the Deaf after the last school year for a job elsewhere.

The accused came to the attention of authorities last week when the mother of the alleged victim discovered the alleged illicit communications and took her concerns to school officials.

An affidavit filed in the case alleges that Watson’s e-mails with the victim “seemed to indicate that the defendant and the victim were planning to meet in order to engage in sexual activity”. In addition the victim allegedly told investigators that she and Watson had been communicating for two years and that they planned to meet for sex. It is alleged that Watson told investigators that he planned to meet with the girl to “kiss and pet”.

Bond for Watson was set at $30,000.

Boyes, Watson and the alleged victim are all deaf.

A third current or former teacher at the school Amanda Elizabeth Key has also been arrested and booked on similar allegations and for the same victim.

09/19/08 - Guilty Plea To Lesser Charge

Christopher Watson, in a plea deal with prosecutors, has pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Watson, who was arrested in November, 2007 on a charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile, will likely be put on probation at sentencing set for October 21.

Reportedly Watson will be required to register as a sex offender.

10/22/08 - Sentencing

Christopher Watson has been sentenced to five years of active supervised probation.

Watson must perform 50 hours of community service, register as a sex offender and continue counseling.

Watson is prohibited from being in the unsupervised presence of minors except with his own children, cannot access Internet social networks or chat sites and has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family.

Keri Ann Brekne, (Keriann Brekne) 28, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Lopatcong Township Middle School in Phillipsburg, New Jersey has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred at the teacher’s home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and at the girl’s home in Lopatcong Township in New Jersey.

Brekne is charged in Pennsylvania with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors and was being held in lieu of 10 percent of $75,000 bail.

Brekne is charged in New Jersey with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by engaging in sexual conduct, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. Her bond in New Jersey is set at $150,000.

1/29/08 - Arraignment

Brekene was arraigned Monday in New Jersey.

Brekene’s attorney indicates that he has filed a bail reduction motion in an attempt to get the $150,000 bail in New Jersey reduced. Brekene’s bail in Pennsylvania is 10 percent of $75,000.

2/21/08 - Suspension

Keri Ann Brekne has been suspended with pay by the township school board with the suspension retroactive to January 23, the day of her arrest.

2/29/08 - Guilty Plea

Keriann Brekne agreed today to plead guilty to five counts of aggravated indecent assault in Pennsylvania.

Brenke’s attorney says he client agreed to the plea to spare the girl from testifying.

Reportedly she will plead guilty to similar offenses in New Jersey next month.

Bryan Moore, 25, a a social studies teacher at RHAM High School in Hebron, Connecticut has been arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor and enticing a minor.

It is alleged that Moore engaged a female student in inappropriate sexually based interactions online. Police say that Moore sent inappropriate e-mails and text messages to the teenager.

Moore came to the attention of authorities on September 17 by way of a tip from the state Department of Children and Families hot line.

Moore surrendered to police on Monday afternoon after a warrant for his arrest was obtained.

Moore was subsequently released on $25,000 bond and has a court appearance set for October 7th.

Reportedly Moore has been placed on suspension by the school system.
