Lowell B. Hanna, 66, a retired Baltimore industrial-arts teacher has been ordered to stand trial on 219 counts, including criminal solicitation to commit rape and statutory rape, attempted rape of a person less than 13 years old, attempted corruption of minors and other charges.
Hanna was arrested in January after he allegedly arranged on the Internet to have sex with the mother and her 7- and 9-year-old daughters.
At the time of his arrest Hanna was on the substitute teacher lists of at least two York County, Pennsylvania school districts.
The “mother” was in reality Detective Lisa Carroll, a member of the Delaware County, PA Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the “sting” was the culmination of an on-line investigation during which Hanna allegedly communicated with the detective from June 2007 until his arrest in January 2008.
It is alleged that over the course of the months that Hanna was persistent in his efforts to schedule a date with the woman and her “daughters”. A meeting was set up for a parking lot of a Ridley Park, PA diner in January. When Hanna arrived he was arrested.
When officers searched his vehicle they allegedly found dozen bottles of wine, Viagra, condoms and gifts including a “Hannah Montana” compact disc and video game as well as a yellow legal pad containing the names of the woman and her daughters, their meeting location and directions.
11/17/08 – Sentencing
Reportedly, Lowell Hanna has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to have sex with 7- and 9-year-old girls and their mother, who he met online.
Hanna was sentenced on October 31st after pleading guilty to two counts of criminal attempt to commit aggravated indecent assault. As a result of the plea deal, 17 additional charges were dropped.
