Lowell B. Hanna, 66, a retired Baltimore industrial-arts teacher has been ordered to stand trial on 219 counts, including criminal solicitation to commit rape and statutory rape, attempted rape of a person less than 13 years old, attempted corruption of minors and other charges.

Hanna was arrested in January after he allegedly arranged on the Internet to have sex with the mother and her 7- and 9-year-old daughters.

At the time of his arrest Hanna was on the substitute teacher lists of at least two York County, Pennsylvania school districts.

The “mother” was in reality Detective Lisa Carroll, a member of the Delaware County, PA Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the “sting” was the culmination of an on-line investigation during which Hanna allegedly communicated with the detective from June 2007 until his arrest in January 2008.

It is alleged that over the course of the months that Hanna was persistent in his efforts to schedule a date with the woman and her “daughters”. A meeting was set up for a parking lot of a Ridley Park, PA diner in January. When Hanna arrived he was arrested.

When officers searched his vehicle they allegedly found dozen bottles of wine, Viagra, condoms and gifts including a “Hannah Montana” compact disc and video game as well as a yellow legal pad containing the names of the woman and her daughters, their meeting location and directions.

11/17/08 – Sentencing

Reportedly, Lowell Hanna has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to have sex with 7- and 9-year-old girls and their mother, who he met online.

Hanna was sentenced on October 31st after pleading guilty to two counts of criminal attempt to commit aggravated indecent assault. As a result of the plea deal, 17 additional charges were dropped.

Kelvin S. Johnson, 28, a former shop teacher and girls’ basketball coach at Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia, who was arrested on October 28 in Hanover County on one count each of taking indecent liberties with a minor and using a computer to facilitate a sexual offense involving a child, has now been indicted by a grand jury in Henrico County on four additional counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

At the time of Johnson’s arrest in Hanover County there was an allegation that he was having a relationship with a teenage girl although it was unknown by news media whether or not she was a student at Patrick Henry High School.

In spite of the grand jury indictment, authorities in both Hanover and Henrico counties have declined to say whether the charges involve more than one juvenile.

In the wake of Johnson’s October arrest, parents of students at Patrick Henry High School were up in arms complaining of the lack of information regarding Johnson, the alleged victim or victims and the school’s handing of the incident.

Reportedly Kelvin Johnson no longer works for the school system, however school officials have not confirmed any action regarding Johnson’s employment.

Jason Cunningham, 33, an industrial arts teacher at Malcolm High School in Malcolm, Nebraska has been charged with third-degree sexual assault of two female students.

Cunningham who has taught at the school for two years allegedly touched the inner thigh of an 18-year-old girl in October. She reported the alleged improper touching in January 2008.

During the course of the investigation a second girl reported that Cunningham rubbed her inner thigh while they were in a vehicle returning from a school trip in late August or early September. The girl also alleges that once they got back to the school Cunningham cornered her, while they were alone in an equipment room, and rubbed her shoulder and hair.

The misdemeanor charges carry a penalty of up to a year behind bars on each count.

Cunningham has been placed on administrative leave.

05/27/08 – Pre-trial Diversion Granted

Jason Cunninnngham will be attending pretrial diversion instead of facing trial on two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault.
