John Byrne, 64, a former school bus driver for the Queen Creek Unified School District in Arizona has been convicted on six sexually-related counts against a female student.

Byrne, who drove a school bus for Queen Creek Middle School and Jack Barnes Elementary School was found guilty after a nine-day trial that ended Wednesday.

The girl told investigators that that Byrne began molesting her when she was in the seventh grade.

Byrne allegedly admitted to Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies in August 2007 that he began having sex with a 15-year-old girl when she was 14.

It was alleged that Byrne made arrangements to pick the girl up before school and would molest her when he was on the bus alone with her.

Byrne who was indicted on 11 felony sexual-related counts with a minor in September 2007 is facing from 23 to 45 years in prison at sentencing.

Charles Billa, 40, a Sarasota County school bus driver has been arrested on allegations that he molested a 10-year-old girl on his bus in 2007.

Billa, who turned himself in to the North Port Police Department Thursday night, faces a felony count of lewd or lascivious molestation against a victim younger than 12 by a person over 18. Reportedly, Billa refused to speak to investigators.

Billa came to the attention of authorities when another school bus driver reportedly heard two girls talking in December about the abuse alleged to have occurred in August 2007.

The alleged victim was interviewed at the Child Protection Center in Venice and allegedly told investigators that Billa spanked her on the buttocks when she boarded the bus and that he later sat in the seat behind her and rubbed her chest on top of her clothes.

According to a police report, while supervising a new trainee driving the Glenallen Elementary School bus route, Billa moved around on the bus. The female trainee said Billa sometimes tickled and carried students from their seats to the door. It mostly happened to female students.

The then trainee was interviewed by a detective and said that on the day of the alleged incident she saw Billa hanging over the seat in front of him but could not see what he was doing.

Reportedly Billa has been placed on maintenance-related duty where he does not have contact with children.

Kristi Bennett, 30, a for school bus driver for the Huntington County School Corporation in Huntington, Indiana has been sentenced to one and a half years with six months reduced for mitigating circumstances and 10 months suspended, 30 days of which on electronic monitoring for child seduction.

Bennett admitted that sometime between January and May 2008 while working as a bus driver she met a juvenile male and that in one instance they met at the movie theatre and during the film she kissed him and allowed him to rub her breasts.

Bennett in addition to her jail time, must abide by sex offender stipulations, complete sex offender treatment, have no contact with any child aged 16 or 17 except her own children and is required to perform 60 hours of community service.

Bennett is allowed to submit to jail by January 3.
