Guilty

(09/03/08 – Initial BBT Report)

Stephen W. Shaffer, 55, who prior to retirement taught science at Somerset Area Junior High School in Somerset, Pennsylvania has been arrested on allegations of raping and sexually assaulting one of his former students in 2001, when the girl was 13 and 14-years-old.

Shaffer is charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, indecent exposure and corruption of minors on allegations that he engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl when she was in eighth grade.

It is alleged that in early 2001 that Shaffer attempted to get the girl to touch him in a sexual manner and that in April of that year that he raped her on couch in the basement of his home.

Police say that the charges are based upon on consistent interviews with the victim and love letters, cards and notes from Shaffer that indicate a physical relationship existed between the two.

Earlier this year, Shaffer surrendered his teaching certificate as the state’s Department of Education investigated a “personal, romantic and sexual relationship” with a student.

Following his arrest Shaffer was reportedly released on bond under the conditions that he surrender his passport and deed to his home within 48 hours. He is also to have no contact with the victim or her family and must stay at least 500 yards away from them.

10/08/08 – Preliminary Hearing

A preliminary hearing was held for Stephen Shaffer today and the judge bound him over for trial on charges of rape, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, indecent exposure and corruption of minors.

Shaffer was bound over in spite of what media reports are calling “often inconsistent testimony from the now 21-year-old woman and a lack of physical evidence.”

Shaffer remains free on bond pending resolution of his case.

Jury Returns Guilty Verdicts

A Somerset County Court jury has found Stephen Shaffer guilty on two counts of indecent assault and one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.

The jury found Shaffer not guilty of raping the eighth-grade student in 2001.

Shaffer faces a maximum of 14 years in prison at sentencing which was set for January 6th.

Reportedly, Shaffer will be required to register as a sexual offender under Megan’s law for 10 years.

Stephen Eubanks, 67, of North Augusta, South Carolina reportedly a former principal of Paul Knox Junior High School and assistant principal of North Augusta High School in North Augusta, South Carolina and a former principal of Winyah High School, in Georgetown, South Carolina has been arrested on charges of molestation that date back to the 1970s.

According to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Eubanks is charged with lewd act upon a child under the age of sixteen, exposing of private parts, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of enticing children from school.

Currently there are two alleged victims who were 14 and 16-years-old at the time of the alleged sexual abuse.

Greg Lass says he is one of Eubanks victims.

Reportedly Lass is the then 14-year-old described in arrest warrants as being groped and grabbed by Eubanks. He said it happened when Eubanks, was his principal at Paul Knox Junior High School in the late 1970’s and that Eubanks asked him to leave a school dance with him and they allegedly went to Eubanks homes were the sexual assault occurred.

Following his arrest Eubanks was subsequently released on $25,000 bond.

11/19/08 – Additional Alleged Victims, Additional Charges

Reportedly child molestation charges continue to mount against Stephen Eubanks after several additional victims have contacted state agents to report years of alleged sex abuse, dating back to the late 1970s that reportedly continue on through the early 1990s.

Eubanks now faces a total of 15 charges. Nine charges have been added to the list of six previous counts lodged against him on October 21st.

Investigators say that there have been other adults claiming abuse who have come forward but do not wish to press charges at this time.

Among the most recent accusations are allegations that:

Eubanks had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old boy at Eubanks home in 1993. The allegations include accusations that Eubanks and the boy watched pornography and engaged in masturbation and oral sex and that Eubanks gave the teen alcohol and marijuana.

Eubanks had a 15-year-old boy perform oral sex on him at Eubanks’ home and at Paul Knox Middle School in 1977. He is accused of giving the teen alcohol and marijuana during that same time frame and taking the boy to several rest areas off Interstate 20 in Aiken County and forcing him to perform sexual intercourse and/or acts with other, unknown adult men.

Eubanks had a 15-year-old female student fondle him outside of his clothes while they were inside his vehicle in 1977.

Following his arrest on the latest charges, Eubanks was reportedly being held without bond.

09/18/09 – Grand Jury Indictment

An Akin County grand jury has reportedly indicted Stephen Eubanks on 19 charges including criminal sexual conduct and enticing an enrolled child from school.

Among allegations leveled in the indictment, Eubanks is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old boy at Eubanks’ residence in 1993 and that he and the boy watched pornography and engaged in masturbation and oral sex.

It is also alledged that Eubanks provided teens with drugs and alcohol and that he sexually abused other students in the 1970s.

Eubanks is reportedly free on $25,000 bond.

William George “Bill” Tillman, 61, a former eighth-grade teacher who retired last year from Valley Springs Middle School in Arden, North Carolina has been arrested on allegations of molesting three young girls.

Tillman is reportedly charged with three counts of first-degree sex offense of a child and three counts of sexual exploitation of minors. The alleged victims are described in media reports as younger than 10 years-old.

Tillman came to the attention of police after a call was received over the weekend from the Department of Social Services.

Police began and investigation during which they searched the Tillman home and seized computers, a camera, videotapes of pornography and children’s underwear.

Investigators believe Tillman met the children through a friend who had custody of them.

Police say pictures were made of the three young girls who are not related, not former students of Tillman or Tillman family members. It is alleged that one victim described in detail the sexual assaults and photography.

Following his arrest, Tillman was held in custody in lieu of $150,000 secured bond.

08/21/09 – Hearing Continued

A probable cause hearing for William Tillman was continued today until September 18th.

Tillman remains in the Henderson County detention facility in lieu of $150,000 bond.
