Jonathan R. Carver, 29, a resident supervisor at Alpine Academy, a private residential school for troubled girls in Erda, Utah has been arrested on allegations of raping a 17-year-old student.

Carver is reportedly charged with four counts of rape, two counts of forcible and witness tampering. The latter charge owing to allegations that Carver told the girl not to speak with investigators.

Reportedly, Jonathan Carver worked with his wife as a house parent at Alpine Academy in Tooele County and that he was responsible for the daily tracking, well-being and safety of the 17-year-old alleged victim, who was a resident at the academy for several months during 2008.

It is alleged that Carver began having sexual relations with the victim in October 2008.

It is further alleged that most of the sex acts occurred in the academy’s recreation room when no one was around, although on other occasions sex acts are alleged to have occurred in Carver’s bedroom or shower when his wife was away.

Carver came to the attention of authorities when the father of the alleged victim contacted authorities because he was concerned about the ongoing communication between Carver and his daughter after the girl was no longer a resident of the academy.

Bail for Carver has been set in the amount of $100,000 cash only.

08/10/09 – Guilty Plea

In a plea deal with prosecutors, Jonathan Carver has pleaded guilty to five felony counts of forcible sexual abuse. In exchange prosecutors dismissed counts of rape, forcible sodomy and witness tampering.

Carver is set to be sentenced on October 6th.

He faces up to 15 years on each count for a combined maximum sentence of 75 years.

Maria Guzman Hernandez, 32, a sixth-grade teacher at Our Lady of Charity, a private religious school in Hialeah, Florida has reportedly been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old, eighth-grader.

Hernandez is reportedly charged with sexual battery on a child over whom she had custodial authority.

It is alleged that a sexual relationship between Hernandez and the boy existed for months and that the boy told police they had been ‘’sexually active” since March.

It is further reported that police allege that the boy’s mother acknowledged to both police and Department of Children & Families investigators that she approved of the relationship, is under investigation by both agencies for permitting the teen to have a months-long affair with the teacher

It is alleged that Hernandez, under questioning by Hialeah Police, admitted to having sex with the boy.

Reportedly, police had to delay questioning Hernandez regarding the alleged illicit relationship as she was out of town, vacationing at Disney World with the alleged victim.

Media reports indicate that the school has asked Hernandez to resign.

Hernandez is reportedly free on $10,000 bond.

07/28/09 – Plea Deal Rejected

Maria Guzman Hernandez has reportedly rejected a plea deal with prosecutors.

The plea deal which Hernandez rejected would have sent her to prison for two years after which she would be on probation for two years. In addition, Hernandez would have also been forced to surrender her teaching license under the now rejected plea deal.

Hernandez has now been set for trial for sexual battery on a child in October.

John Joseph Kovach Jr., 52, a field hockey coach who works at Mater Amoris Montessori School in Ashton, Maryland and also the assistant field hockey coach at Towson University has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and possession of a firearm accessible to minors.

It is alleged that Kovach engaged in an Internet conversation with a retired detective from the Los Angeles Police Department posing as a 13-year-old female on February 27, 2009. It is further alleged that the conversations Kovach had with the detective were sexual in nature and discussed pornography.

The Los Angeles Police Department passed this information on to Baltimore County detectives who began an investigation into Kovach.

And investigation was started and a search of Kovach’s residence allegedly discovered child pornography, described as young, nude female children. The search also allegedly turned up a handgun that was accessible to a minor who lives at Kovach’s residence.

Reportedly, Kovach was arrested at Mater Amoris Montessori School.

It is alleged that he admitted afterward to his preference of viewing young girls between the ages of 9 and 13.

Police say that Kovach apparently used several AOL Instant Messenger screen names in the past in attempt to converse with young girls on the Internet. Police have reportedly indicated Kovach used names such as PecoachRV, CoachsteveHS46, F Athletics, Minkycoach, and TowsonGKCoach, Girlscoach, Coachsteve48, Emmmie92, HottieGerl92, Allie1992 in communicating via the Internet.

Following his arrest, Kovach is reportedly being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.

07/25/09 – Federal Grand Jury Indictment

John Kovach has reportedly been indicted by a federal grand jury for the receipt and possession of child pornography.

If convicted, Kovach faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
