Askia Brown, 33, a former assistant track coach at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon has been arrested on charges of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse..

It is alleged that Brown improperly touched a 14-year-old girl while he massaged her hamstring at a private track and field club in Portland.

The alleged victim told investigators that as she lay on her stomach that Brown’s hands went under her shorts, under her underwear and he rubbed her genital area for about 10 minutes. The girl also told investigators that when Brown was done he called her a “bad girl” and asked her if she liked it.

Reportedly the girl fled the gym with Brown running after her, warning her not to tell anyone.

The girl eventually went to her father’s office, told him of the alleged sexual assault and police were called.

After police arrested Brown, he admitted to giving the girl a rubdown, and admitted to touching some pubic hair, but denies committing sexual abuse. When Deteictive Brett Hawkinson asked Brown if the crime lab would find Brown’s DNA inside the victim’s vagina, he replied, “I hope not”.

Following his arrest Brown was initially held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Reportedly Brown left the employ of Central Catholic High School last spring.

Investigators ask that anyone with more information about Brown’s exploits, either during or after he coached for Central Catholic, should call Portland Police.

10/22/08 – More Alleged Victims and More Charges

Two more alleged victims have come forward and five additional charges have been filed against Askia Brown.

Brown is now facing a total counts including two counts of sex abuse in the second degree and six counts of sex abuse in the third degree

09/02/09 – Guilty Verdict On Two Molestation Cases

At the conclusion of a four-week long trial, the jury has found Askia Brown guilty of molesting two teen-age girls and not guilty of molesting a third.

The jury found Brown guilty on six counts of second- and third-degree sexual abuse. Under sentencing guidelines Brown faces slightly more than a year in prison, although the judge has the power to ignore the sentencing guidelines.

Wendy Cannin, 30, a junior high math and business teacher and track coach at Heppner Junior/High School in Heppner, Oregon has reportedly been arrested on allegations that she had sexual contact with a 15-year-old male student and a 17-year-old male student.

Following her arrest, Cannin was booked into the Umatilla County jail on suspicion of one count of sexual misconduct, four counts of third-degree sex abuse, one count of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree sodomy.

It is alleged that the sexual contact occurred both on and off school property and that the incidents began before the end of the last school year and continued through the middle of July.

Bail for Cannin was set in the amount of $40,500 and prosecutors are expected to convene a grand jury to consider the case tomorrow.

Reportedly, Cannin was placed on administrative leave last week.

09/01/09 – Grand Jury Indictment

Today, a Umatilla County grand jury indicted Wendy Cannin on one count each of third-degree rape, second-degree sexual abuse and third-degree sodomy, all of which are felonies.

The grand jury also indicted Cannin on two misdemeanor counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct.

Reportedly, Cannin remains jailed in lieu of bail and has requested a court-appointed attorney.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 10th.

Susan Christina Alderson, 46, a sixth-grade teacher at Robert Frost Elementary School in Silverton, Oregon has reportedly been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.

It is alleged that Alderson had an ongoing sexual relationship with the boy between 2002 and 2006 and that the boy was 13 years old when the sexual abuse began.

Reportedly, the alleged victim was not a student of Alderson’s.

Anderson was arrested on charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, second-degree sodomy, first-degree sex abuse and second-degree sex abuse.

Following her arrest, Alderson was being held in the Marion County Correctional Facility.

07/17/09 – Plea Deal Offered

Susan C. Alderson has been offered a plea deal by prosecutors but Alderson’s attorney indicated that she has not had time to go over the offer with Alderson.

The judge ordered that Alderson return to court July 30 to enter a plea in the case.
