William Anderson, 48, a former bus driver and janitor at Arden Cahill Academy in Gretna, Louisiana was convicted Wednesday in a jury trial of molesting a 14-year-old girl he met when she was a student, cultivating a two-year courtship with proclamations of love and promises of marriage while coaxing her into having sex.

Reportedly, Anderson was convicted on two counts of sexual battery, one count of oral sexual battery and molestation of a juvenile and faces up to 40 years in prison at sentencing. Anderson is already serving a 7-year prison sentence for an unrelated crime involving a 15-year-old girl.

The crimes for which Anderson was convicted began in the mid-1990s, when the girl was an eighth-grader and he was in his mid-30s.

The victim, who is now 29, testified Wednesday that Anderson began by slipping notes into her school locker in which he complimented her looks.

Sentencing for Anderson is set for March 19th.

Dennis Ray Collins, 53, a former volunteer baseball coach at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia has reportedly pled guilty to one count of sexual penetration with an object, and one count of indecent liberties while in a custodial role for sexually assaulting a player in the 1980s.

Collins was sentenced was 20 years in prison with 10 suspended conditioned upon good behavior, indefinite supervised probation, required to register as a sex offender and ordered to have no with contact with the victim.

Collins came to the attention of authorities when the former player made a report to police last fall. Collins, who was living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina when he was charged, was brought to Virginia Beach to face the charges.

Collins pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the boy in Collins’ home between early 1986 and late 1988. At the time, the boy played baseball for Bayside High School.

During that same period, Collins was also a youth minister at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church in Virginia Beach.

Mark Walter Sonnenburg, 53, of Altadena, California has reportedly pleaded no contest to charges he molested two 9-year-old girls while working as a teacher at Eagle Rock Montessori School in 1988.

According to a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Sonnenburg is expected to be sentenced to 180 days in jail and five years probation.

Sonnenburg must also register as a sex offender and will reportedly be required to attend sex offender therapy sessions.

Formal sentencing is set for April 19th.

Sonnenburg was arrested in October, 2008 on two counts of lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 and one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object of a victim under the age of 14 by a person who was at least 10 years older.

One of the victims was a student of Sonnenburg’s.

A press release by the LA County DA’s Office indicated that the criminal complaint alleged both victims reported the crimes in October 2007 and the criminal complaint against Sonnenburg was filed within a year as required to extend the statute of limitations for the crimes.

Reportedly, One victim filed a police report in 1988, but Sonnenburg wasn’t arrested until October, 2008 when the second victim notified police.

Douglas S. Cavett, 43, a former teacher’s aide at Hunt Middle School in Burlington, Vermont has been arrested on allegations of the long term molestation of a boy, beginning when the boy was 11-years-old in 1991.

Cavett is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of driving with a suspended license. At an initial appearance Cavett’s attorney entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.

The alleged victim, who is now 28, reportedly told investigators that Cavett molested him in 1991 when Cavett was a teacher’s aide at Hunt Middle School in Burlington and that there were over 100 incidents of sex with Cavett between 1991 and 1997

The alleged victim has reportedly also told investigators that Cavett hosted numerous parties at his home in Milton where he allegedly gave booze and pot to young boys.

Cavett came to the attention of police earlier this month when the former student and alleged victim told his probation officer about being molested by Cavett between 1991 and 1997.

Police were conducting a search of Cavett’s home on Wednesday when Cavett arrived and reportedly tried to flee the scene. Police arrested him on a dead-end road in Milton.

Police say that Cavett was convicted in 2004 on two counts of improper touching of a 17-year-old boy and that he served 30 days in jail but was not placed on the sex offender registry.

School administrators have indicated that Cavett was hired as a para-educator for the district in November 1992 and left that job in 1995. It is further reported that Cavett became a sometime-substitute teacher for the district until 2001

Police continue to investigate this case and are asking anyone with further information on the matter to call the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations at 802-859-3084.

05/28/09 – Bail Denied

Reportedly, saying that Douglas Cavett is a significant risk to public safety, a judge has denied bail for Cavett.

Cavett will remain in jail pending trial.

02/08/10 – No Contest Plea

Reportedly, Douglas Cavett has pleaded no contest on two counts of aggravated sexual assault.

No information is available on sentencing at this time.

Wesley “Wes” Owens, 52, a teacher at Antioch Upper Grade School in Antioch, Illinois has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having an “inappropriate relationship” with a female former student.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Owens was charged today with two counts of criminal sexual assault.

It is alleged that the improper relationsip had occurred several years ago when the girl was 15 years of age and that the alleged victim had been sexually abused by Owen starting in 1997.

Reportedly, Owens came to the attention of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office by way of Wheaton police who received a tip regarding the alleged relationship between Owens and the former student.

Investigators contacted the victim, who now lives in Massachusetts, and she acknowledged that a relationship between Owens and herself had taken place. Sheriff investigators then flew the alleged victim to Lake County to take her sworn statement after which they arrested and charged Owens.

Following his arrest, Owens was being held in the Lake County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
