Leah Pourdavood, 40, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Jones Elementary, in Jones, Oklahoma and her husband, Reza Ross Pourdavood, 53, a professor at Langston University have been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of an Edmond teenage girl.

Reza Pourdavood was arrested on seven complaints of child sexual abuse and Leah Pourdavood was arrested on one complaint of enabling child abuse.

The Pourdavoods came to the attention of authorities when the alleged victim went to her high school counselor and asked questions about how to deal with people “getting in her face and yelling.” As the counselor talked with the girl the allegations of abuse came out.

Reportedly both Leah and Reza Pourdavood were released from jail on $70,000 bond each.

Jones Public Schools Superintendent Mike Steele says the school system is conducting its own investigation and that Leah Pourdavood is suspended from teaching duties.

Stephanie Diane Harris, 27, a former teacher at Marble City Schools in Marble City, Oklahoma has been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old male student.

The alleged victim has told investigators that Harris began text messaging him during the month of June. The boy says that on June 24th Harris text messaged the boy, asking him if he would have sex with her. The boy reportedly agreed and began walking down the road. It is alleged that Harris picked him up and took him to her residence where it is alleged they had sex. Allegedly after the sexual encounter Harris took the boy back to Marble City and let him out of the vehicle to walk home.

It is further alleged that between June and August, Harris sent the boy five photographs of herself in a text message. Allegedly the photos were of Harris’ vaginal area, her nude breasts, and one of her breasts while wearing a bra or bathing suit top. Additionally it is alleged that Harris sent the boy text messages which were sexual in nature.

Reportedly Harris asked the boy to send photographs of his genitals, which he has told investigators that he did.

Court records indicate that Harris has been charged with first-degree rape and three counts of soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.

Harris reportedly turned herself into police upon learning an arrest warrant for first-degree rape had been issued for her. After being booked into the Sequoyah County Jail Harris was released on $35,000 bond.

Reportedly the boy’s cell phone has been examined by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and it is alleged that investigators were able to retrieve messages and photos from the phone.

Reportedly Harris came to the attention of authorities by way of notification from the alleged victim himself.

Harris is reportedly no longer employed by the school district having resigned after being suspended.

Lori June Canady, 35, a former teacher’s aide in the Jennings, Oklahoma school system has pleaded guilty to the second-degree rape of a 15-year-old male student.

Tulsa County District Judge William Kellough sentenced Canady to an 8year suspended sentence. While this gives Canady a felony conviction it does not require her to serve prison time but does require her to register as a sex offender.

Canady admitted that she picked the boy up at his home on February 18th of this year and took him to a Tulsa shopping mall before they went to the Best Western motel in Sand Springs.

Larry Dean Scheer, 58, the band director at Haskell High School, in Haskell, Oklahoma has been arrested and charged with two counts of forcible sodomy against a 17-year-old female student.

It is alleged that Scheer had two sexual encounters with the girl on school grounds, both incidents are alleged to have occurred inside the band room at the school.

In the first alleged assault the girl told investigators that Scheer took off her shirt and bra, pulled down his own pants, and begged her to perform a sex act. The girl says that when she refused to perform oral sex upon him that Sheer forced her to do so.

The second assault is alleged to have occurred two weeks later and in that incident the girls told investigators that Scheer locked the door, took off her clothing and performed a sex act upon her.

Scheer came to the attention of authorities when the girl’s mother discovered “sexual voice mails” on her daughter’s cell phone and called police.

Scheer who has taught at the school for five years was suspended last week. The school board is set to consider the Superintendent’s recommendation to fire Scheer tomorrow.

Scheer is free on bond and his attorney maintains his innocence.

08/05/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Larry Scheer pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of forcible sodomy.

Scheer was sentenced to a term of 20 years suspended on each count with each term to run concurrent with the other.

Reportedly Scheer will have to register as a sex offender.

According to the Muskogee Phoenix report, Scheer’s attorney say that Scheer is going to turn in his teaching certificate and start a new career as a truck driver.

The Webmaster’s Opinion

I see Mr. Scheer’s extremely lenient sentence as the equivalent of the “female discount” that we see in so many cases of female teacher’s sexually abusing students.

And that is very disheartening, in that rather than deterring crime, this sweetheart deal encourages more victimization of kids….

Laura Kathleen Cantrell, 40, a former librarian at Harrah Junior High School in Harrah, Oklahoma accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student surrendered to authorities on Monday.

Cantrell is charged with second-degree rape and oral sodomy on allegations that she had sexual contact with the boy at her home in 2006.

Cantrell, the mother of two, was suspended from the school after the allegations came to light in January and resigned in May after school officials recommended firing her.

Cantrell came to the attention of authorities in January when she told a school resource officer a student was trying to extort money from her. Court papers indicate that the boy threatened to tell police they had been sleeping together if she didn’t give him $50.

It is alleged in an affidavit by a Harrah police officer that Cantrell admitted to having sex with the boy four or five times last year.

Following her arraignment, Cantrell was released on $15,000 bond.

Her next court date is set for September 4th.
