Christopher Thomas, 30, a social studies teacher at Wiley Middle School in University Heights, Ohio has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having a sexual relationship with a female student.

Thomas has reportedly been charged with sexual battery.

The alleged relationship with the student was thought to have started in September 2008, when the girl was 13-years-old. The most recent alleged sexual contact between Thomas and the victim is said to have occurred on November 6th.

According to University Heights Police Chief Gary Stehlik the alleged sexual conduct occurred at the girl’s residence, Thomas’ residence and on school grounds.

Thomas came to the attention of authorities when the alleged victim told her parents about the alleged relationship. The girl’s parents then called University Heights Police and University Heights officers contacted Eastlake Police.

Thomas has reportedly been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

School officials have released a letter to parents regarding the allegations against Christopher Thomas and WTOL TV has made that letter available.

Following his arrest, Thomas was released after posting $1,085 bond.

11/19/09 – Case Update

University Heights Police Chief Gary Stehlik said Tuesday a former Wiley student, now at Cleveland Heights High School, has told police she was also involved with Thomas via text messages.

Thomas remains free on bond and has a preliminary hearing set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Willoughby court.

Patrick Janson, 42, a former theater and music teacher at St. Joseph Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school in the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio, has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having a sexual relationship with a former student.

Janson was reportedly arrested this morning at his home on a warrant for sexual battery, however official charges have yet to be filed. Reportedly investigators will now take their evidence to a grand jury.

Janson was placed on administrative leave when the investigation got underway on September 26. Another teacher resigned at the same time for failing to report the information to school officials.

With his arrest, school officials have announced that Janson’s employment at the school has been terminated.

St. Joseph Academy President Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis released a statement which says in part:

This is devastating to everyone at Saint Joseph Academy. Every adult connected with our school has a responsibility to nurture and protect our students so they can reach their greatest potential.

We are simply aghast that someone on our faculty apparently did harm to them.

We are proud of the young women who cooperated with this investigation and provided the information that led to his arrest. We know how traumatic that can be and, as a community, we are all praying for them and will offer them whatever support we can.

10/22/09 – Court Appearance

Patrick Janson was charged in Cleveland Municipal Court this morning with sexual battery.

Bond for Janson was set at $150,000 and he was required to surrender his passport.

The prosecutor said in court Thursday morning that three victims have been identified.

Police ask that anyone with information is asked to contact the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit at (216) 623-5630.

11/18/09 – Indictment Announced

Patrick Janson has reportedly been indicted on 16 counts of sexual battery.

Janson is scheduled for arraignment on December 3.

The investigation continues into other possible victims.

Robert Mark Fickenscher, 57, a chemistry teacher at Madison High School, in Madison, Ohio has reportedly been arrested on allegations of attempting to solicit sex from what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

Fickenscher was arrested during a teaching symposium at Harvey High School on a warrant from the Pennsylvania Attorney General Child Predator Unit.

It is alleged that Fickenscher and the undercover agent posting as the girl met in a chat room and were speaking between April and July and that Fickenscher and “the girl” planned to meet in the Erie area.

Fickenscher faces extradition to Pennsylvania to face a total of five charges, including attempted unlawful conduct with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility.

Fickenscher has reportedly been placed on paid administrative leave by the school system.

11/06/09 – Case Update

A press release from the office of Pensylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett reveals new information on the allegations and charges against Robert Fickenscher.

According to the press release, it is alleged that Fickenscher repeatedly expressed a desire to meet the girl for sex and described in graphic detail the sex acts he wished to perform. He is also accused of sending five webcam videos that showed him nude or semi-nude, including several in which Fickenscher was engaging in sexual activity in front of his computer along with others showing him wearing women’s undergarments and performing a striptease for the child.

Additionally, Fickenscher allegedly encouraged the girl to obtain a digital camera so that she could send him “revealing” photos of herself.

Fickenscher is charged with five counts of criminal attempted unlawful contact with a minor (related to obscene or sexually explicit material), along with one count of criminal use of a computer, all third-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison and $15,000 fines.

According to the press release, Fickenscher has waived extradition and will be transported from Ohio to Pennsylvania today.

11/16/09 – Court Appearance

Robert Mark Fickenscher made an initial court appearance in Pennsylvania this morning.

At that appearance, the judge lowered Fickenscher’s bond from $150,000 to $25,000, noting this would be Fickenscher’s first offense.
