William Allen Beeson, 58, a former English and theater arts teacher at Virginia City High School, in Virginia City, Nevada has been arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, suspicion of felony sexual assault and suspicion of misdemeanor unlawful conduct with a child.

Following his arrest Beeson was held on $150,000 bond.

Beeson was fired from the school last August after having been placed on administrative leave in the wake of accusations of improperly touching a male student in April.

The current charges are the result of the alleged incident last year.

Officers are investigating previous cases in which Beeson was accused by two former students of improperly touching them in the 1990s.

1/31/08 - Bail Reduction

Dozens of supporters watch as judge lowers William Beeson’s bail from $150,000 to $25,000.

Bail was condition upon Beeson having no contact with alleged victims or their families, surrendering his passport and not leaving northern Nevada.

2/06/08 - Arraignment Set

Arraignment for William Beeson is set for February 13th.

He remains free on $25,000 bail and the investigation continues.

05/05/08 - Arrested and Jailed Again

On Friday William Beeson was arrested and jailed for allegedly violating court-ordered conditions of his release.

A spokesman for the Storey County Sheriff’s said that Beeson violated his conditions of release by being in the company of a 16-year-old male, who the spokesman described as a runaway and incorrigible juvenile.

Reportedly the boy was at Beeson’s residence.

Following his arrest Beeson was being held without bail in the Storey County jail for contempt of court by violating conditions of his bail release.

05/09/08 - Beeson On House Arrest

William Beeson has been released from jail and placed under house arrest.

While on house arrest Beeson is subject to “warrantless search and seizure conditions”.

07/03/08 - Preliminary Hearing

A preliminary hearing has been held for William Beeson. At that hearing both alleged victims testified.

The prosecution dismissed an alternate charge of sexual assault on a child under 16 after one of the alleged victims testified that he was 16 at the time of the alleged sexual assault.

Storey County Justice Court Senior Judge Edward R. Johnson determined there was sufficient evidence to try Beeson one count of felony sexual assault and one count of gross misdemeanor unlawful contact with a child

Fired Storey County Teacher Arrested On Sex Charges (1/30/08)

Michael Gogerty, 41, of Las Vegas, Nevada and a fifth grade teacher at Hafen Elementary School in Pahrump, Nevada has been charged with possessing and receiving child pornography over the Internet.

According to a news release from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement:

According to the affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, the investigation into Gogerty began after ICE received a tip from the Toronto Police Services Sex Crime Unit that a child pornography video file had been posted on the Internet via “yousendit.com.” Subscriber information supplied by the Internet provider led ICE agents to the Las Vegas address where Gogerty resides.

During a consensual search of Gogerty’s home, investigators discovered numerous images and video files containing child pornography on his computer. Agents seized more than 200 CDs and floppy disks which, according to Gogerty, contained images of prepubescent minors engaged illicit sexual conduct. Further investigation determined that Gogerty’s computer contained more than 250 video files with names indicating child pornography.

Reportedly, the illicit materials included images of prepubescent girls and pictures of girls engaged in bestiality. It is also being reported that Gogerty told federal agents that he has also posed as a 13-year-old boy to chat with young girls on the computer and has been accused of inappropriate behavior at school.

Gogerty appeared in federal court in Las Vegas yesterday and was ordered held without bail. If convicted he faces a maximum 30 years in prison, and $500,000 fine.

Gogerty has been suspended from his teaching position without pay.

Gogerty has taught at Hafen Elementary School in Pahrump for the last two years. Prior to that he was reportedly a teacher’s assistant in Las Vegas and also worked at various day care facilities.

A Google cache of what purports to be Michael Gogerty’s former page at Hafen Elementary School indicates that he taught at the following schools during the time frames indicated:

The same cached pages indicates he received a degree in Elementary Education (BS), from Nova Southeastern University.

05/06/08 - Sentencing

Michael Gogerty, who pleaded guilty to the charges in February, has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the internet.

Angel Benjamin Menes, 39, a driver’s education teacher at Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nevada has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in sex with a student.

Menes was booked on one count each of sexual assault and sexual misconduct with a student.

Reportedly the allegations against Menes came to authorities from a parent of a student.

04/15/08 - Police Report Released

A police report revealing additional case details was released on Monday.

The report also alleges that Menes has confessed and expressed a concern that he might have given the student a sexually transmitted disease.

It is alleged that Menes told the alleged victim to e-mail him if she needed someone to talk to, thus beginning what police say was a five week relationship during which the girl and Menes kissed in his classroom after school and the girl sent nude pictures of herself to Menes’ cell phone.

It is further alleged that Menes and the alleged victim engaged in mutual oral sex in his wife’s minivan which, according to the police report, was parked near the girl’s home, .

On Monday night, Menes was still being held in the Clark County Detention Center in lieu of $60,000 bail.

04/17/08 - Free on Bond

Angel Menes has been freed from the Clark County Detention Center on $6,000 bond.

His arraignment is set for May 15th.

Kevin Joseph Kegel, 28, former athletic director and physical education teacher at Yerington High School, in Yerington, Nevada has been charged with one count of sexual conduct by a school employee with a pupil ages 14 or 15, and two counts of sexual conduct by a school employee with a pupil ages 16 or 17.

Kegel surrendered to authorities on Monday to face the charges alleged he had sex with the same female student in August 2006, November 2006 and January 2007.

Kegel’s employment with the school was terminated in late June following a vote by the Lyon County School District Board of Trustees.

7/13/07 - Bond Posted

Kevin Joseph Kegel has posted $25,000 bond and been released from jail.

His arraignment is set for August 8th and his preliminary hearing is set for September 24th.

9/21/07 - Preliminary Hearing Postponed

The preliminary hearing set for September 24th has been postponed. Both the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office and defendant’s attorney have agreed to continue the hearing to allow more time to await incoming law enforcement reports.

Reportedly, the preliminary hearing will be rescheduled within 40 days.

10/25/07 - Preliminary Hearing Set

The preliminary hearing for Kevin Joseph Kegel has been set for November 5th.

12/21/07 - No Contest Plea

On Monday Kevin Joseph Kegel pleaded no contest to one count of sexual conduct by a school employee with a pupil.

Sentencing is set for March 24th.

Kegel remains free on bond.

3/26/08 - Sentencing

Kevin Joseph Kegel has been sentenced to an intermediate term of 16 months to four years in the Nevada State Prison; however, probation was granted with the special condition that he spend three months in the Lyon County Jail.

Kegel has been ordered not to have contact with the victim, the family, minors, or students of high school age.

Kegel’s attorney requested the sentence be served during the course of 45 consecutive weekends in the Washoe County Jail.

Dale Scharpf, a special education teacher at Harney Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada has been arrested on a charge of lewdness with a minor.

It is alleged that Scharph touched the breast of a 13-year-old over her clothes.

Scharph was arrested after the girl told school administrators that Scharpf had touched her.

The arrest report indicates that Scharpf told investigating officers that in 2005 he received a 10 day suspension for reportedly touching a female student’s breast.

Scharpf has evidently been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
