Sheral Lee Smith, 37, a teacher at Summit School, a private school, in Jackson, Mississippi has been arrested and charged with statutory rape and transfer of a controlled substance.

Smith is reportedly charged with the statutory rape of a 14-year-old male student.

The crime is alleged to have taken place at Smith’s home. The charge alleging the transfer of a controlled substances is predicated on a belief that Smith gave the boy some type of “pill”, reportedly Xanax.

Smith was arrested on September 17th and was released on $50,000 bail two days later.

09/23/08 - Additional Info

Sheral Lee Smith says that the allegations against her are false and that the boy was a friend of her son.

Smith says that her husband coached the boy in soccer and that he has been to the Smith home many times.

Meanwhile, prosecutors say that the relationship between Smith and the boy existed before she began teaching at the start of the current school year and that he was not one of her students.

Smith was reportedly initially suspended from her job but was subsequently fired.

Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest says that the case will go to a grand jury which will decide if the case goes to trial.

Rebecca Bogard, 27, a science teacher at the Center for New Opportunities, an alternative school in Biloxi, Mississippi, has been charged with one count of sexual battery on a male student under 16 years of age.

Bogard who has taught in the Biloxi school system for three years came to the attention of authorities by way of a complaint from the boy’s parents.

Following her arrest Bogard was released on $50,000 bond.

1/23/08 - Suspended By School System

Rebecca Bogard has been suspended with pay by the school system.

It was also revealed that Bogard was crowned the Biloxi Shrimp Bowl queen in 1996, which may or may not matter in anything…

1/30/08 - Preliminary Hearing Waived

The Sun Herald is reporting that not only has Rebecca Bogard waived her preliminary hearing but also that she admitted to police a sexual relationship with the boy, who she allegedly referred to as “her little sex fiend”.

According to the Sun Herald, Mrs. Bogard indicated that sex occurred in her Jaguar which bears the license place, “GRRRRR”.

1/31/08 - Bogard Resigns

According to Biloxi Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Tisdale, Rebecca Bogard submitted her resignation Wednesday.

Hours before Rebecca Bogard submitted her resignation she reportedly e-mail her colleagues the following statement:

09/16/08 - Grand Jury Indictment

Rebecca Bogard has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of exploitation of a child, touching of a child for lustful purposes and statutory rape.

If convicted of all charges Bogard could face as much as 65 years in prison.

09/17/08 - Additional Details on Charges

The nature of the allegations contained in the grand jury indictment of Rebecca Bogard has been revealed.

The three charges are based on allegations that Bogard:

(1) used text messages to persuade a child under 18 to meet for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct

(2) touched or rubbed her mouth and hands on the body of a child under age 16

(3) had sexual intercourse with a child at least age 14 but younger than 16

Bogard remains free in $50,000 bond to await arraignment and eventual trial.

Loni Marie Folks, 24, a fifth-grade teacher at W.L. Smith Elementary in Petal, Mississippi has been arrested on allegations of the sexual battery of a 16-year-old male exchange student that was living in the home with Folks and her husband.

Folks came to the attention of authorities by way of a complaint from “a member of the community”.

At an initial court appearance bond for Folks was set at $30,000 and conditioned upon her avoiding all contact with the student.

Folks was released from the Forrest County Jail after making bond and has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

05/15/08 - Trial Date Set

Loni Folks has been set for trial on charges of sexual battery on August 8th.

Folks remains free on $30,000 bond.

08/25/08 - Trial Postponed

The trial of Loni Folks scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed, reportedly due to her attorney being busy with other trials.

No new trial date has been set, although Folks’ attorney says that a November trial is possible.

09/04/08 - New Trial Date Set

The trial of Loni Folks has now been scheduled for November 19th.

Folks remains free on $30,000 bond.

Delvarin Jarrod Milloy, 28, a former teacher at the Mount Olive Attendance Center, in Mount Olive, Mississippi has been arrested and charged with having sex with an underage student according to Attorney General Jim Hood.

According to Hood, Milloy was arrested Friday on two counts of sexual battery. The crime is alleged to have occurred in September 2005 during the beginning of the student’s eighth-grade year at the Attendance Center.

Hood further indicated that the girl was 13-years-old at the time of the alleged incidents and that Milloy was her teacher.

Reportedly Milloy was arrested today by investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the Covington County Sheriff’s Department.

Reportedly Milloy was being held at the Covington County jail without bond being set.

Damien G. Henderson, 28, a former teacher at McLain Junior High School in McLain, Mississippi has pleaded guilty and been sentenced on a charge of child exploitation.

In December 2006 Henderson was alleged to have sent explicit text messages to a student at Greene County High School. It was alleged that Henderson offered to meet with the victim to engage in sex acts.

As a result of his guilty plea Henderson was sentenced to 20 years, of which he will serve 10 years in prison with the remaining 10 years to be served on supervised release.
