Stephen Thomas Rooney, 39, an assistant principal at Markham Middle School in Los Angles, California arrested last week on allegations of sexually abusing a 13-year-old female student has pleaded not guilty.

Rooney was charged March 6 with three counts of a forcible lewd act upon a child and two counts of committing a lewd act upon a child. The alleged crimes are said to have occurred between January 1 and March 1 of this year. Two of the charges involve an incident that allegedly took place on the school campus in his office in front of another student.

Rooney’s attorney tried unsuccessfully to get his client’s $1 million bail reduced.

Rooney’s case has angered some Markham parents after they learned that Rooney had been previously investigated for allegedly having sex with an underage student at Fremont High School and pulling a gun on her stepfather. Although no criminal charges were filed in that case he was removed from that school and subsequently assigned to Markham Middle School.

04/28/08 - Additional Charges

Stephen Rooney has now been charged with molesting a second Markham Middle School, a 14-year-old female.

Prosecutors also say they have enough evidence to charge Rooney with the molestation of a 15-year-old girl who was a student at Foshay Learning Center.

05/01/08 - Rooney Ordered To Stand Trial

Yesterday Stephen Rooney was ordered to trial on three counts of forcible lewd acts upon a child, six counts of lewd acts upon a child and four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse in connection with three girls.

One of the girls, who is now 18, testified that she met Rooney around 2005, while she was a student at Foshay Learning Academy. The girl said that she was 15 and first had sex with him in October 2005 during a relationship that lasted about 1½ years and that she became pregnant with Rooney’s baby. The girl testified that she had a miscarriage and subsequently continued the sexual relationship with Rooney.

09/19/08 - Another Victim, Another Set of Charges

Steve Rooney, already facing charges of molesting three students, was arrested again Thursday on charges of molesting a fourth, according to authorities.

In the latest case, Rooney faces five felony charges that he molested a 14-year-old student at the Foshay Learning Center between June 2004 and June 2006.

The new charges will be handled as an entirely different case they Rooney's previous charges and will works its way through the courts after the first case.

Rooney currently free on bond is reportedly expected to be released on $100,000 bond in the newer case.

Kathryn Gill, 29, a former teacher at Fairless Middle School in Navarre, Ohio has pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Reportedly Gill admitted having a sexual relationship with a boy who is between 13 and 16-years-old. The sexual conduct between Gill and the boy was alleged to have taken place between April and July of this year.

The boy is reportedly a student in the Fairless Local Schools but prosecutors did not specify which school the boy attends as the charge was based on the boy’s age rather than a teacher/student sexual relationship.

Gill could face up to five years at sentencing in September although the judge reportedly favors some form of probation.

Gill will be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years.

09/15/08 - Sentencing

Kathryn Gill was today sentenced to four years in prison, with the option of probation after six months.

Gill will be subject to sex offender counseling, she must register as a sex offender for 25 years and was fined $2,500.

Reportedly, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Richard D. Reinbold Jr. acknowledged that had the offender been a man and the victim a girl that he ” likely would be tougher” in sentencing.

Gregory Jackson, 34, a math teacher and volleyball and basketball coach at Lewis Palmer Middle School in Monument, Colorado has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Two 13-year-old, eighth-grade female students say that Jackson touched them inappropriately and in a sexual manner while coaching them in basketball. Reportedly the girls told their parents of the improper touching and the parents informed a school resource officer.

Reportedly Jackson has been placed on administrative leave from the school and is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on a $25,000 bond.

09/15/08 - Guilty Plea To Reduced Charge

Gregory Jackson, charged with multiple counts of felony sexual assault pleaded guilty today to a misdemeanor harassment charge.

As part of the plea deal with prosecutors, Jackson is required to surrender his teaching certificate for a year while he’s on probation.

David Leo Hazlett, 57, a former teacher at Leawood Middle School, in Leawood, Kansas and later a substitute teacher in the Olathe Schools has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation for allegedly possessing hundreds of images of child pornography.

A tip led police to Hazlett whose computer was searched last month. Allegedly police found sexually explicit pictures of children under 18. Police say the pictures appear to be from Dec. 7, 2005, to July 25, but some images appear older. Police describe the alleged child pornography as commonly traded among child-porn viewers and which have surfaced in previous cases.

Police say there has been no indication the pictures involve property, computers or students in the school districts in which Hazlett has worked.

Reportedly Hazlett taught sixth and seventh grade science at Leawood Middle School from 1983 to 1998, lived in South America for a few years and then worked as a substitute teacher in Olathe from December 2005 to March of this year, when he was fired.

2/26/08 - Guilty Plea

David Hazlett pleaded guilty today to using a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Hazlett admitted that he chatted with two minor girls via a Web camera, asked them to undress and show themselves to the camera and that he saved the images to the hard drive of his computer.

Sentencing is set for May 12th.

Sarah Elizabeth Joel, a teacher at Narcoosee School, a charter school, in Osceola County, Florida has been arrested on three counts of lewd & lascivious battery on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with boy who is a former student.

Joel came to the attention of authorities when a Harmony High School teacher told officer that one of her students was suspected of having a sexual relationship with his former teacher.

Sheriff’s deputies say that the relationship between Joel and the student became sexual in nature late last year.

Joel is being held in Osceola County Jail with no bond set as of Friday.

09/13/08 - Guilty Plea

Sarah Joel pleaded guilty today to one count of sexual activity with a child 16 or 17 for having a relationship with an underage former student.

Joel will be sentenced on November 7th.
