David Campbell Jones, 47, a former science teacher and coach at Phillips Middle School and a Boy Scout troop leader in Chapel Hill, North Carolina who pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor was sentenced today in federal court in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Jones today received a minimum term of 10 years in prison, a $25,000 fine and 25 years supervised probation once he is released from prison. This will likely mean that Jones will be under supervision for the rest of his natural life.

At his sentencing, Jones told the judge:

I apologize to the victim and the victim’s family, and I hope that that will be relayed to them. I apologize to my family, friends, school and Scouts, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community, and most of all God for my actions. They were wrong.

Jones who worked at Phillips Middle School for 23 years was most recently an athletics director, football coach and eighth-grade science teacher. He was a very popular teacher and coach who the students referred to as “Coach Jones” at his encouragement.

Jones was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in August of 2006 on allegations that he used a computer to solicit a 15-year-old Orange County boy for sex. Jones who called himself “NiceguyfromNC27707″ on-line was arrested when he showed up at the boy’s home. At the time of his arrest Jones reportedly had in his possession lubricant, condoms and a digital camera.

Michael Postma, 29, of Plantation, Florida, a former teacher at Oakland Park Elementary School has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in federal prison, to be followed by a life term of supervised release as part of a plea agreement on charges involving distribution of child pornography.

Postma was arrested in March of this year as the result of an internet sting conducted by the Keene, New Hampshire Police Department. Over the course of several months, Postma communicated with a Keene detective who Postma thought was a 14-year-old boy. During these on-line communications, Postma sent child pornography to the detective on four separate occasions.

As part of the investigation, Postma was traced to Plantation, Florida and the Plantation Police Department was contacted which in turn contacted the FBI. The ensuring investigation was coordinated between the FBI, the Plantation Police Department, and the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.

A search warrant was executed on Postma’s home and his computers confiscated. A forensic examination on the computers revealed that Postma had in fact communicated with the Keene detective and it was also discovered that Postma’s computers contained nearly 100,000 images of child pornography.

Steven Lysogorski, a 37-year-old Dearborn, Michigan middle school employee has been arrested in an Internet sex sting for allegedly trying to arrange a meeting with an undercover officer posing online as a 14-year-old boy.

Lysogorski is officially charged with Arranging for Child Sexually Abusive Activity and Using the Internet to Commit a Crime.

It it alleged that during an on-line chat with what the accused thought was a 14-year-old boy that Lysogorski solicited the boy for anal and oral sex in a Toyota Camry. He is alleged to have agreed to give the boy a cell phone they could use to arrange more trysts.

In addition to being a teacher, Lysogorski is reportedly also employed as an official scorer at Detroit Tigers baseball games.

Update: 6/22/07:

Lysogorski was arraigned today and entered a not guilty plea to three counts of use of a computer or the Internet to communicate with another to commit a crime and one count of child abusive commercial activity.

Bail was set in the amount of $125,000, of which 10% is required for release.

A preliminary hearing has been set for July 5th.

Randy Hutto, 26, of Spurger, Texas and a teacher’s aide for special education at area middle schools has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for soliciting sex from a minor.

Hutto was arrested in October 2006 during an undercover internet sting operation conducted by the Texas Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit.

Hutto was taken into custody by unit investigators after he drove from Spurger to Beaumont, where he planned to meet what the thought was a 13-year-old boy for sex.

Hutto must also serve a five year supervised release, is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with children and must register as a sex offender.
