Claire Richards, 35, a math teacher at Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia has been arrested on 23 charges including two sexual assault counts.

Richards was arrested and charged Friday morning on allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Richards and a 16-year-old male student.

Richards’ arrest came after a months-long investigation by the Columbus Police Department.

Richards was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a person in custody, four counts of interference with custody and seventeen counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

Richards was booked into the Muscogee County jail at 1 p.m. Friday with bond set at $17,500. Reportedly she was released on bond around 4 p.m.

Reportedly Richards has been placed in an administrative position, away from contact with students while the case is pending.

Some news media reports indicate that Claire Richards is also know as Marie Richard. At this point we have been unable to confirm or disprove that information.

Odis L. Moreton Jr., 36, a former math teacher at First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida has been arrested on a charge of sexual battery on a 16-year-old female student.

It is alleged that on September 29, 2008 that Moreton made several explicit sexual remarks to the girl while exposing his penis and grabbing her crotch.

Reportedly the girl told investigators that as she backed out of the classroom, Moreton told her to keep quiet or he’d “be on the news.”

Moreton resigned from the school on October 1st, after school officials first learned of allegations. Moreton was in his second year at the school at the time of his resignation.

Reportedly Moreton had been arrested in 2006 on a warrant for a rape charge stemming from an incident in 1997 and school officials were aware of that arrest but since Moreton was not prosecuted in that case he was not disqualified from be hired for the job.

Charles Edward Johnson Sr., 55, a math teacher and baseball coach at Westwood High School in Fort Pierce, Florida has been has been arrested on allegations of molesting two female students who are between the ages of 12 and 16-years-old.

Johnson came to the attention of authorities earlier this month when a 15-year-old female student told a school resource officer that Johnson touched her privates. The girl also told investigators that two days after the initial incident that Johnson touched her breasts

Information of the allegations involving the second student are not currently available.

Following his arrest Johnson was released on $150,000 bond.

Reportedly Johnson has been reassigned by the school and will not be in contact with students. Johnson has cooperated with detectives but is denying the allegations against him.

12/19/08 - Plea Deal and Sentence

Today Charles Edward Johnson Sr. accepted a plea deal that will result in no jail time but the end of his teaching career.

Johnson who had been charged with two felony counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and a single count of misdemeanor battery, pleaded no contest to three counts of misdemeanor battery.

The judge sentenced Johnson to a year of probation for each of the former molestation charges and, on the third battery count, the 142 days Johnson already has served in jail plus 223 days of probation. The terms are to be consecutive, meaning Johnson will be on probation for two years and 223 days.

The judge also ordered Johnson to relinquish his teaching certificate by January 1st.
