(04/03/08 - Initial BBT Report)

Tyrone Forbes, 49, choir director at Seven Hills Charter School in Worcester, Massachusetts has been arrested and charged with statutory rape on allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.

Forbes came to the attention of police when an officer on patrol allegedly discovered Forbes and the boy in a pickup truck in a parking lot at 1:30 am Thursday.

In questioning the two, officers determined that Forbes and the boy were allegedly in a sexual relationship which had been ongoing since November.

Reportedly Forbes is a friend of the boy’s family.

Forbes is charged with seven counts of rape of a child.

At an initial appearance in court Forbes was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail. If Forbes makes bail he is to have no contact with the boy.

Police indicate that in addition to being choir director at the school Forbes is also a pastor at the Mount Sinia Church of God in Christ in Worcester.

05/14/08 - Arraignment

Tyrone Forbes has been arraigned on three counts of unnatural statutory rape of a child after being indicted recently by a grand jury.

Forbes entered a not guilty plea to the charges.

A grand jury handed up indictments on April 25 charging Forbes with three counts of unnatural statutory rape. This moved the case to Worcester Superior Court and resulted in the second arraignment.

Bond for Forbes was continued at $5,000.

Forbes’ attorney requested and received $1,500 from the budget of the state Committee for Public counsel Services to hire a forensic psychologist saying Forbes mental state could become a critical issue at trial.

The next court date for Forbes is currently set for June 6th.

Gregg Woodward at English teacher at Foxboro High School in Foxboro, Massachusetts has been arrested for being in possession of child pornography.

Woodward’s arrest came about through the work of agents assigned to the FBI, Innocent Images Unit (IIU) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Cyber Crimes Unit.

Woodward allegedly purchased access to at least two websites that allegedly distribute child pornography, “The Sick Child Room,” and, “RH Collection.” He allegedly purchased a thirty day subscription to The Sick Child Room on June 21, 2007, and paid $99.95, and on March 16, 2007, he purchased access to RH Collection, paying $94.95 for a thirty day subscription.

Woodward appeared in U.S. District Court this morning, and is scheduled for a probable cause and detention hearing on April 2, 2008 before Magistrate Judge Hillman.

If convicted of the charges Woodward faces a maximum penalty of 10 years’ incarceration, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Scott Simoncini, a history teacher at West Boylston Middle/High School in West Boylston, Massachusetts has been charged with using the Internet to distribute harmful material to children.

Following Simoncini’s arrest on Friday he has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

Reportedly police are saying that none of the alleged acts involved students at the school where Simincini teaches.

Simoncini is scheduled for arraignment today.

1/23/08 - Arraignment

Scott Simoncini was arraigned on Tuesday on five counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor and two counts of attempting to commit a crime. The latter charge arising from allegations that Simoncini engaged in the enticement of a child under 16-years-old. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in December 2006, December 2007 and January 2008.

Following arraignment Simoncini was released on $2,500 bond conditioned upon him having no contact with anyone ounger than 16 and that he not use the internet.

At the time of his arrest Simoncini had been under investigation for over a year by police in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He originally came to the attention of authorities via an anonymous tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in which he was accused of enticing children via the internet.

Simoncini’s attorney said that his client engaged in no crimes in the “real world” and would be found innocent.

3/20/08 - Guilty Plea

Scott Simoncini today pleaded guilty in Leominster District Court today to four counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor.

As part of a plea deal Simoncini was sentenced to one year in the House of Correction, suspended, two years probation, ordered to to register as a sex offender; ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children younger than 16, required to forfeit his rights to the computer hard drive, ordered not to communicate in Internet chat rooms, required to wear a global positioning system ankle bracelet and to undergo counseling.

John “Jack” Donovan, Jr., 61, the former head football coach at Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Massachusetts has pleaded guilty to child rape, unnatural acts with a child, and indecent assault and battery on a young female relative.

Donovan was charged in 2003 when the then 13-year-old told a friend and her mother than Donovan had been sexually abusing her for three years. Following his arrest Donovan was fired by the school system.

As a result of his guilty plea, Donovan was sentenced to three years in prison.

In addition to the prison time Donovan will be on probation for two years. While on probation he will be required to undergo sex offender and alcohol treatment, he will be prohibited from being near the victim and will be required to wear a GPS.

Donovan will also have to register as a sex offender.

Ronald T. Garney, 60, a former earth science teacher at Amherst Regional High School, in Amherst, Massachusetts pleaded guilty today to 11 counts of possessing child pornography.

Garney was arrested in November, 2006 and indicted in January, 2007.

His arrest was the result of a federal investigation into a Web site purveying child pornography from around the world.

Garney had been free on $10,000 cash bail since shortly after his arrest. But after accepting Garney’s guilty plea, Judge Mary-Lou Rup revoked Garney’s bail and ordered him sent to jail pending the sentencing hearing.

2/11/08 - Sentencing

Today, Ronald T. Garney was sentenced to 2½ to 3 years in prison the result of his guilty plea to possessing child pornography.

In addition to the prison sentence Garney was also sentenced to 10 years probation, ordered that he undergo sex offender treatment, and is prohibited from having an unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18.
