Christopher John Watson, 38, a former social studies teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been arrested and booked into Parish Prison on a charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Watson and Nathan Daniel Boyes, 26, a physical education teacher at the school, are alleged to have been communicating via sexually explicit e-mail and text messages with a 16-year-old female student of the school.

Reportedly Watson left the Louisiana school for the Deaf after the last school year for a job elsewhere.

The accused came to the attention of authorities last week when the mother of the alleged victim discovered the alleged illicit communications and took her concerns to school officials.

An affidavit filed in the case alleges that Watson’s e-mails with the victim “seemed to indicate that the defendant and the victim were planning to meet in order to engage in sexual activity”. In addition the victim allegedly told investigators that she and Watson had been communicating for two years and that they planned to meet for sex. It is alleged that Watson told investigators that he planned to meet with the girl to “kiss and pet”.

Bond for Watson was set at $30,000.

Boyes, Watson and the alleged victim are all deaf.

A third current or former teacher at the school Amanda Elizabeth Key has also been arrested and booked on similar allegations and for the same victim.

09/19/08 - Guilty Plea To Lesser Charge

Christopher Watson, in a plea deal with prosecutors, has pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Watson, who was arrested in November, 2007 on a charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile, will likely be put on probation at sentencing set for October 21.

Reportedly Watson will be required to register as a sex offender.

Christopher Smith, 39, a former teacher at Holy Savior Menard Central High School in Alexandria, Louisiana has been arrested on allegations of having “an improper relationship” with a female student.

Smith was arrested on two counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and two counts of prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student.

It is alleged that the sexual activity between Smith and the female student took place off campus and may have been occurring as long as the past school year.

Following his arrest Smith was jailed in lieu of $30,000 bond.

Smith came to the attention of authorities by way of notification from school administrators.

Maurna Cay Thornton, 40, a former teacher at Hornbeck High School in Hornbeck, Louisiana has pleaded guilty to a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Thornton came to the attention of authorities in April 2007 when the parents of a 14-year-old male student contacted Vernon Parish Schools Superintendent and complained of a possible relationship between Thornton and their child. The school superintendent told the parent to file a report with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, which they did.

Following an investigation Thornton was arrested and charged with one count felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile in late April of last year.

Thornton is scheduled for sentencing on July 31st.

She apparently remains free on bond of $25,000 to await sentencing.

08/01/08 - Sentencing

Maurna Cay Thornton was sentenced Thursday to 10 years at hard labor and fined $2,500 plus court costs.

The judge suspended five years of the sentence and placed Thornton on five years supervised probation once she is out of prison.

Thornton will be required to register as a sex offender.

Dudley “Trey” Dixon III, a former softball coach at Westlake High School in Westlake, Louisiana has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to five months in jail on a reduced charge stemming from allegations that he had consensual sex with a 16-year-old female student.

Dixon was originally charged with felony carnal knowledge of a minor on allegations that he had a sexual relationship with the student in 2005. Dixon was arrested in October 2006.

Dixon pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Dixon will NOT have to register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors say that the victim and her family agreed with the reduced charge.

Anthony Vincent Ularich III, a teacher at Slidell Pathways School, in Slidell, Louisiana has been arrested on child pornography charges.

Ularich was booked on 276 counts of pornography involving juveniles after a technician at a computer repair shop called police and reported what appeared to be child pornography on a customer’s computer.

Police obtained a search warrant and seized Ularich’s computer from the repair shop and turned it over to the FBI for a forensic examination. A second search warrant, one for Ularich’s residence was obtained. There investigators said they seized hundreds of digital images, dozens of video tapes, two computers, a digital camera, a scanner and other items.

Ularich is being held in the St.Tammany Parish Jail on a $1.1 million bond and faces up to 10 years in prison on each count.

06/02/08 - Sentencing

Anthomy “Vince” Ularich was sentenced today to seven years in prison for 275 counts of possessing child pornography.
