Dwayne Bernard, 29, a basketball coach at Jeanerette Senior High School in Jeanerette, Louisiana has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Bernard is reportedly charged with 17 counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and three counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.

Reportedly, Bernard came to the attention of authorities by way of a referral from the Iberia Parish School Board.

Following his arrest Bernard was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail Wednesday on a $50,000 bond.

Jada Hendrix, 23, an honors English teacher at North DeSoto High School in Stonewall, Louisiana has been arrested by deputies from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office on allegations of sending sexually oriented cell phone text messages to a 16-year-old male student.

Shreveport, Louisiana Police have also obtained an arrest warrant for Jada Hendrix on allegations she had a sexual relationship with the boy.

Hendrix came to the attention of authorities after her boyfriend alerted them to a cell phone of text messages between Hendrix and the student.

Hendrix turned herself in to DeSoto Parish deputies and was booked into DeSoto Detention Center last week on one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and was subsequently released on $10,000 bond.

Shreveport police said the alleged conduct happened at a home in Shreveport and that Hendrix is charged with molestation of a juvenile.

Reportedly Hendrix has resigned from the school system.

09/28/09 – Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Jada Hendrix reportedly pleaded guilty this morning to felony grade indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Under the plea deal, Hendrix received a four-year suspended sentence, seven years probation and was ordered not to have any contact with the victim during her probationary period.

Reportedly, Hendrix will be required to register as a sex offender.

Byron Toups, 39 band director at Destrehan High School, in Destrehan, Louisiana, has been arrested and charged with molestation of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and simple battery.

Toups is accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student who was 16-years-old at the time.

He is also accused of trying to kiss a 17-year-old student during a band camp at the school last summer.

WWLTV is reporting that Toups is the subject of a federal sexual harassment lawsuit filed on behalf of two teenaged girls one of whom claims that Toups had consensual sex with her when she was 18 and the second girl claims Toups made lewd comments to her and tried to kiss her at band camp last summer.

3/19/08 – Bond Hearing

A state district court judge Wednesday set a $150,000 bond for Byron Toups and conditioned bond on Toups not having any contact with students under the age of 19.

Initiall bond for Toups was set at $75,000 but when the assistant district attorney who arrive late to court objected requesting a bond of $250,000 the judge revised the bond amount to $150,000.

The judge also ordered Toups not to return to the school or to go within 1,000 yards of the campus.

His arraignment is set for April 7th.

3/25/08 – Grand Jury Indictment

The Charles Parish District Attorney’s office says that a grand jury has indicted Byron Toups on felony charges of molestation of a juvenile and intimidation of a witness and on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery.

Toups is currently free on $150,000 bond.

04/07/08 – Arraignment

Byron Toups was arraigned this morning at which time he entered a not guilty plea.

Toups remains free on $150,000 bond.

05/06/09 – Trial Date Set

The trial of Byron Toups on charges alleging molestation, intimidation of a witness and simple battery has been set for September 21st.

08/20/09 – Byron Toups Gets Plea Deal

In a plea deal with prosecutors, Byron Toups has pleaded guilty to malfeasance, intimidation of a witness and simple battery.

Toups was originally charged with molestation, intimidation of a witness and simple battery.

The prosecution indicated that the plea deal was in part owing to one of the alleged victims becoming increasingly reluctant to cooperate with the state.

District Judge Lauren Lemmon, sentenced Toups to a year at the parish jail and ordered him to turn himself in to begin serving his sentence on September 21. In addition the judge ordered Toups not to be employed as a teacher or tutor with any student under 19, to have no contact with any of the victims or witnesses and to complete an anger management course.
