Richard Berkley, 42, a former teacher at Dexter High School in Dexter, Kansas has been arrested and charged for engaging in inappropriate sexual relations with a female student.

According to NewsCow.net:

The formal criminal complaint – obtained by NewsCow – alleges that between Jan. 1, 2007 and May 9, 2008, Berkley engaged in lewd fondling or touching with the girl, who would have been 16 or 17 at the time. She is identified on the document by her initials and a birth date of February 7, 1991 is listed for her.

Reportedly Berkley was released on bond immediately following his arrest earlier this month.

According to NewsCow.net, Berkley resigned from the school system in April after having been initially suspended by the school system.

05/12/09 – No Contest Plea

Richard Berkley has reportedly entered a no contest plea to charges of unlawful sexual relations.

Berkley’s sentencing hearing is set for June 29.

Berkley remains free on bond while awaiting formal sentencing.

07/01/09 – Sentencing

Richard Berkley has been sentenced to 30 days in jail to be followed with 12 months probation.

If Berkley violates the terms of his probation he will be ordered to serve seven months with the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Robert C. Baker, 58, assistant principal at Cloud Elementary School in Wichita, Kansas has been arrested upon allegations that he sexually abused a 6-year-old girl at the school.

Baker was arrested Wednesday night. Police have forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office a case file alleging one count of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Baker’s arrest came after a two-week investigation.

Baker came to the attention of police when school officials filed a report on February 4th.

On that date it is alleged that Baker touched the victim’s private area while at school. An affidavit submitted by investigators alleges that the victim had visible injuries.

Reportedly Baker, who has been with the district since 1974, has been placed on administrative leave by the school system.

Following his arrest, Baker was reportedly released on $250,000 bond.

06/18/09 – Charges Dropped

All charges against Robert C. Baker have been dropped at the request of the prosecution.

Marc Bennett, chief deputy district attorney of the crimes against children indicated that medical evidence reviewed by experts raised questions concerning the nature and cause of the injury and as a result the state would not proceed further.

The charges against Baker were dismissed without prejudice.

Baker’s attorney was quoted as saying, “the state realized the evidence did not show a crime occurred, causing the district attorney to drop the charges”.

Reportedly, Baker is looking forward to enjoying his retirement.

Michah Cook, 27, a physical education and health teacher at Junction City High School in Junction City, Kansas has reportedly been arrested and charged on allegations of a sexual relationship with a male student.

Reportedly, Cook was originally arrested on one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Subsequent reports indicate that Cook is now charged with five counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Bond for Cook was set in the amount of $25,000 and her initial hearing in Geary County District Court was continued until July.

News media reports are divergent on the age of the alleged victim, with broadcast reports indicating the alleged victim is a “senior” at the high school while the print media reports indicate that the alleged victim is 15-years-old, not an impossible scenario but certainly unusual.
