Craig Edward Kelso, 38, a history teacher at Granger Junior High School in National City, California has been arrested on allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old former student.

Kelso was arrested this evening after a week-long investigation into allegations against Kelso, who had been placed on administrative leave from the school.

Kelso’s whereabouts were reportedly unknown as police were on the lookout for him. At one point today, Otay Ranch High School, where Kelso’s estranged wife reportedly works was locked down when Kelso was thought to be in the vicinity of the school and had reportedly threatened his wife. Swarms of Chula Vista and National City police officers responded and circled the campus with pistols and shotguns drawn as helicopters flew overhead.

Craig Kelso is currently being held in the San Diego jail on bond totalling $900,000.

07/18/08 - Arraignment

Today the public defender assigned to the case of Craig Kelso entered not guilty pleas on 10 of unlawful sex with a minor, four counts of oral copulation, three counts of penetration with a foreign object, one count of sodomy, two counts of lewd touching of a minor and one count of trying to dissuade a witness.

Bond for Kelso remains set at $900,000 and if he makes bond he is prohibited from having any communication with the alleged victim and has been ordered him to stay at least 100 feet from her at all times.

Kelso’s next court appearance is set for September 8th and his preliminary hearing is set for September 29th.

If convicted of all charges Kelso faces up to 60 years in prison.

09/08/08 - Guilty Plea

Craig Kelso has pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor, committing a lewd act on a child 14 or 15 years old and oral copulation on a person under 16.

Eighteen other charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal between prosecutors and Kelso.

Sentencing is set for October 7th and under the terms of the plea deal Kelso will be sentenced to four years and four months in state prison.

Stephen W. Shaffer, 55, who prior to retirement taught science at Somerset Area Junior High School in Somerset, Pennsylvania has been arrested on allegations of raping and sexually assaulting one of his former students in 2001, when the girl was 13 and 14-years-old.

Shaffer is charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, indecent exposure and corruption of minors on allegations that he engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl when she was in eighth grade.

It is alleged that in early 2001 that Shaffer attempted to get the girl to touch him in a sexual manner and that in April of that year that he raped her on couch in the basement of his home.

Police say that the charges are based upon on consistent interviews with the victim and love letters, cards and notes from Shaffer that indicate a physical relationship existed between the two.

Earlier this year, Shaffer surrendered his teaching certificate as the state’s Department of Education investigated a “personal, romantic and sexual relationship” with a student.

Following his arrest Shaffer was reportedly released on bond under the conditions that he surrender his passport and deed to his home within 48 hours. He is also to have no contact with the victim or her family and must stay at least 500 yards away from them.

Chad Widener, 37, a former history teacher at Miami East Junior High School and girls varsity basketball coach at Miami East High School, in Casstown, Ohio has been indicted by a Miami County grand jury on a charge of importuning, a fifth-degree felony.

Widener came to the attention of authorities in February when the parents of a 15-year-old female student complained to the county sheriff’s office about a text message to their daughter.

It is alleged that Investigators checked a message containing “sexual statements” between the girl and an unknown male and through phone records identified Widener as the writer of the message.

Widener has reportedly submitted a letter of resignation to the school system. He had been on paid administrative leave since February.

Widener’s father is reported to be a Miami County commissioner.

If convicted, Widener faces a maximum of 12 months in prison, a fine as high as $2,500 and he could lose his teaching certificate for the state of Ohio.

08/22/08 - Court Hearing

Chad Widener has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge accusing him of contacting a 15-year-old girl regarding sexual activity.

Widener was released on his own recognizance and ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

A special prosecutor and judge from Shelby County handled Friday’s hearing at the request of Miami County prosecutors and judges who wish to avoid any appearance of impropriety because of their relationship with Widener’s father, a Miami County Commissioner.

09/02/08 - Pre-Trial Conference

A pre-trial conference was held today for Chad Widener.

At that hearing his trial date was set for December 11th and 12 in Miami County Common Pleas Court.

A Shelby County Common Pleas Court judge and prosecutor continue to handle the case to avoid any appearance of a conflict by Miami County prosecutors and judges.

Allison Dean, 30, a former English and Oral Communications teacher at Magnolia Junior High School, in Magnolia, Arkansas has reportedly turned herself in for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old male student.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff, Dean gave drugs to the boy and had sex with him for a period of eight months.

Reportedly, Dean faces eight counts of sexual assault, each carrying a potential prison sentence of from six to thirty years, if convicted.

Dean resigned from the school last week.

Reportedly Dean is free on $25,000 bond pending trial.

Dean’s attorney in a public statement said, “She maintains her innocence and the allegations are wholly fabricated and false”.

Although Dean voluntarily turned herself in to police, she reportedly refused to give a statement to investigators.

An investigation into Dean began after the boy’s mother found several text messages on her son’s phone related to drug use and a caller refused to offer a name, an affidavit by police claims. When questioned by his parents, the boy admitted having sex with a teacher at his school, the affidavit claims.

The affidavit alleges that Dean gave the boy, who was not in any of her classes, her cell phone number. The relationship intensified and the two often met at the Genestet water well near Waldo, where they had sex and smoked marijuana together, the affidavit alleges.

Dean is the second Magnolia Junior High School teacher arrested on sex-related charges in less than four months. Donna Lou Sanders was arrested in April on two counts of accomplice to rape, four counts of third-degree sexual assault and six counts of permitting abuse of a minor.

Jennifer Candida Gonzales, 32, a fifth and sixth-grade teacher for students with behavioral problems at Mount Nebo Junior High School in Payson, Utah has been arrested on allegations of sexual conduct with a 16-year-old and sexual relations with a youth.

Reportedly the alleged victim, a 16-year-old boy is not a student of Gonzales.

Gonzales came to the attention of authorities when she called Payson police and told them her husband pointed a 9mm handgun at her and the boy and threatened to kill her after he caught her cheating on him with the teen.

Richard Gonzales was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with domestic violence, and criminal mischief.

Jennifer Gonzales was released from jail on $10,000 bail and has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school system.

According to jail records, Richard Gonzales remains jailed in lieu of $20,000 bond.

06/04/08 - Guilty Plea To Reduced Charges

Jennifer Gonzales has pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony.

While the crimes to which she pleaded guilty carry a punishment of up to 5 years in prison, Deputy County Attorney Mariane O’Bryant doubts Gonzales will serve any jail time.

Gonzales will be required to register as a sex offender.

Formal sentencing for Jennifer Gonzales is scheduled for July 28th.

06/14/08 - Richard Gonzales - Guilty Plea

Richard Gonzales has agreed to plead guilty to a class A misdemeanor of using or displaying a dangerous weapon in a fight if state prosecutors would drop a felony aggravated assault charge.

His sentencing is set for July 10th.

07/28/08 - Jennifer Gonzales Sentencing

Jennifer Gonzales has been sentenced to 180 days in jail.

She was also placed on to 36 months of probation and ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program.

Last month Richard Gonzales was reportedly sentenced to 18 months probation.
