Christopher Wheat, 36, an assistant swim coach at Lawrence North High School in Lawrence Township, Indiana has reportedly been arrested on allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor.

It is alleged that Wheat kissed and fondled a 14-year-old Lawrence North High School student and swim team member. Reportedly, Wheat who also coaches the Lawrence Swim Team, a non-profit organization that competes in swim matches, has coached the girl since she was 11.

A police spokesman has indicated that Wheat was handcuffed and arrested at the Northside high school’s swimming pool on Monday and that Wheat did not admit any wrongdoing.

Investigators said the inappropriate touching began about five weeks ago, and that the girl’s parents noticed a change in their daughter’s behavior before she told them what had happened.

Reportedly, Wheat is suspended without pay from his job as an assistant swim coach at Lawrence North High School.

Following his arrest, bond for Wheat was set in the amount of $30,000 bond and he was subsequently freed on bond.

Today, the Marion County prosecutor’s office today sought more time to file formal charges against Wheat. Prosecutor spokesman Marion Massillamany said the initial hearing for Christopher Wheat was scheduled for October 15 in Marion County Superior Court a and that the state would take a few days to review the case and file formal charges.

10/15/09 – Formal Charges

Christopher Wheat appeared in court today charged with six counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of child solicitation.

Wheat entered a plea not guilty to all charges.

A jury trial was set for December 14th and Wheat was released on bond conditioned on his not having any contact with the alleged victim.

David Black, 22, a paid volunteer, hired by the band booster group, at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having sex with female student who at the time was 14-years-old.

Investigators with the Indianapolis Police Department indicate that Black is charged with three felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation, child seduction and dissemination of matter harmful to a minor.

Reportedly, Black came to the attention of authorities when the alleged victim, now 15, indicated that she might be pregnant with Black’s baby.

It is alleged that when a school staff member contacted Black regarding the allegation, that Black admitted to having sex with the student when she was 14.

Reportedly, the alleged victim is not pregnant.

During the course of their investigation, police allegedly discovered text messages and pictures on Black’s computer that verified the alleged relationship and additional evidence in the case includes a scrapbook made by the teen containing pictures and personal messages between her and Black.

Following his arrest, Black was reportedly being held in the Marion County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond and his case will be tried in Marion County because the alleged criminal acts took place in Indianapolis, where Black resides.

Reportedly, Black no longer works at the school.

Guilty

Dennis M. Jay, 36, a former teacher at Elkhart Central High School and prior to that a history teacher and varsity boys’ soccer at Elkhart Memorial High School both in Elkhart, Indiana has been charged with three felony child seduction and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

It is alleged that Jay had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student and that he had sex with the her at least three times between August 1st and October 31st.

Reportedly Jay came to the attention of authorities when a neighbor of Jay’s, another teacher, called police regarding late evening and overnight visits the girl allegedly made to Jay’s residence. The other teacher suspected Jay was having sex with a student because her car had a student parking sticker and a student identification card hanging from the rearview mirror.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the neighbor also complained about sex noises coming from Jay’s apartment and the management at the apartment complex sent Jay notices regarding the noise.

Reportedly after “several interviews” with police the girl admitted to having a sexual relationship with Jay.

The Elkhart Community School Board put Jay on administrative leave in September and subsequently fired him after he allegedly continued to text message the girl.

Jay could face up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 on each count if convicted.

10/07/09 – Plea Deal On Lesser Charge

In July, Dennis Jay, in a plea deal with prosecutors pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped three counts of felony child seduction.

Under the plea deal, Jay was sentenced to six months, but prison time was suspended.

Jay will be on probation for one year.

Reportedly, under the terms of the plea deal, Jay agreed to the permanent revocation of his teaching license.

The prosecution indicated that that the victim’s failure to cooperate with the investigation led, in part, to the dismissal of the child seduction counts.
