Stephen Pedersen, 45, an English and History teacher and girls’ volleyball coach at Marina Middle School in San Francisco, California was arraigned today on child sexual abuse charges alleging a 13-year-old female student as victim.
Pedersen was arrested Tuesday and at his arraignment today he pleaded not guilty to one count of continued sexual abuse of a child and three counts of committing lewd acts on a child. The charges are stemming from alleged conduct over two years with a girl at the school.
Pedersen came to the attention of school officials and police in January when a female staff member at the school reported to school adminstrators that she allegedly saw Pedersen kiss the girl after school in the gymnasium.
The school’s principal notified police, child protective services and the student’s parents of the allegation and Pedersen, who has reportedly worked for the school district for nine years, was immediately placed on administrative leave.
Reportedly Pedersen is being held in lieu of $1 million bond.
The police request anyone who may have been a victim of Pedersen to contact Inspector Liane Corrales of the Juvenile Division at 558-5529.
09/11/09 – Guilty Plea
Reportedly, Stephen Pedersen has pleaded guilty to two felony counts of committing lewd acts on a child.
According to the district attorney’s office, Pederson faces five years in prison under the terms of the plea deal and must register as a sex offender.
Pedersen remains in custody with formal sentencing set for September 25th.

Stephen Pedersen has been sentenced to a total of five years in state prison.
Pedersen will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
