Anna Margaret Bettencourt, 38, a history teacher at Bliss High School in Bliss, Idaho has been charged with two counts of sexual battery of a minor.

The alleged victim is reportedly 16-year-old male student and the allegations involve incidents occurring between August 15 and September 30, 2008.

It is alleged that Bettencourt and the boy had intercourse twice during the August to September time frame, once on the floor of the school’s agriculture shop on a Sunday and again in the boy’s pickup truck after they met at the school. Police say that both Bettencourt and the boy have admitted these alleged sex acts.

Authorities have determined that a school aide had first heard about the alleged sexual encounters in November but had not reported it until Tuesday. On February 13th, a school official called the Gooding County sheriff’s office to report the allegations.

Reportedly Bettencourt was arraigned on the charges yesterday and a preliminary hearing has been set for March 19.

Media reports indicate that, due to an undisclosed conflict of interest, the Gooding County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will petition the court to appoint a special prosecuting attorney to handle the case.

04/16/09 - Court Appearance

Anna Margaret Bettencourt made an appearance today in Gooding County Magistrate Court and waived her preliminary hearing.

Magistrate Casey Robinson bound over Bettencourt to 5th District Court for arraignment on April 28th.

Reportedly the prosecution has offered Bettencourt a plea deal that would involve the dropping of one count and a minimum prison sentence of 3 years.

05/13/09 - Bettencourt Wants More Time To Consider Deal

Anna Margaret Bettencourt has requested and received additional time to consider a plea deal with prosecutors.

Bettencourt’s arraignment has been rescheduled for June 25th.

06/16/09 - Guilty Plea

Anna Bettencourt has reportedly pleaded guilty to a single count felony sexual battery of a minor.

In return the prosecution dropped of a second count of the same charge and a $5,000 fine as part of the plea deal.

The prosecution is seeking a prison term of at least three years.

Scott Eugene Dietlin, 34, a economics and history teacher at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California has been arrested on charges that he sent electronic messages to a minor in an effort to seduce the teen.

According to the Burlingame Police Department, Dietlin was arrested Saturday morning on charges of sending harmful matter (via electronic e-mail) with the intent to seduce a minor, attempting to contact a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense and arranging to meet with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense.

The arrest was made in in San Mateo and Dietlin was booked into San Mateo County Jail, where he reportedly remains in custody on $550,000 bail with arraignment set for this morning.

Dietlin came to the attention of authorities when two local teens established a profile on MySpace and posted a photo of a young woman as though it were her profile.

It is alleged that Dietlin started engaging in e-mails with them, and when the minors realized something wasn’t right, they came forward to police and a detective began posing as a teenage girl, struck up communication with Dietlin, who then allegedly arranged a time to meet with the “teen” in San Mateo for a potential sexual encounter.

12/10/08 - Arraignment

Scott Dietlin appeared in court for arraignment but delayed entering pleas to the charges.

Reportedly his defense attorney asked for more time to evaluate evidence.

Dietlin remains jailed in lieu of $700,000 bond.

12/23/08 - Court Appearance

Scott Eugene Dietlin appeared today in San Mateo County Superior Court and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

02/06/09 - Preliminary Hearing Postponed

A preliminary hearing for Scott Dietlin, charged with three felony counts of sexually explicit communication with a minor, one count of attempted communication with a minor and two counts of arranging to meet with a minor, has been postponed until later this month.

Dietlin’s preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday, was reset to February 19th.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

02/20/09 - Preliminary Hearing Waived

Scott Dietlin has waived his right to a preliminary.

Dietlin will appear in Superior Court on March 11 to enter a plea and set a date for a jury trial.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

04/08/09 - No Contest Plea

Scott Dietlin has reportedly pleaded no contest to one count of arranging to meet with a minor for the purpose of engaging in a lewd act.

Under the terms of the plea deal, six other counts were dropped by prosecutors.

Also under terms of the plea deal, Dietlin agreed to spend up to two years in state prison.

Dietlin, who has been in custody since his arrest, will be formerly sentenced on June 2.

06/02/09 - Sentencing

Scott Dietlin has reportedly been sentenced to two years in state prison.

With credit for time served, Dietlin will serve a total of about 15 months in prison.

Dietlin is required to register as a sex offender.

Eric Charles Gladden, 34, a teacher at Futures High School, a charter school in North Highlands, California, has been arrested following an investigation involving inappropriate contact with five female students.

It is alleged that Gladden sent pictures of his genitalia to the female students who were 16 and 17 years-old with the alleged incidents taking place between March 2008 and January 2009. Gladden also is accused of supplying the students with alcohol at his home on more than one occasion.

Reportedly Gladden is facing 34 felony and misdemeanor charges involving distribution of lewd material to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of minors, child annoyance and falsifying documents to be used as evidence.

Investigators say there’s evidence that Gladden had inappropriate conduct with students, both in person and through cell phones.

Gladden was reportedly being held in custody at Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Arrested along with Gladden was Monica Alarcon, 29, also a teacher at Futures High School.

Alarcon is reportedly facing one count of falsifying documents to be used in evidence.

Reportedly the investigation revealed that she allegedly helped Gladden forge and plant evidence in an attempt to clear him of the accusations

Bail for Alarcon was set at $50,000.

Both Gladden and Alarcon are scheduled for court appearances Friday.

Gladden teaches economics, history and leadership and is the advisor of the school’s video game club while Alarcon is a Spanish teacher and the yearbook advisor.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is continuing the investigation and says there could be more victims and charges.

06/01/09 - No Contest Plea

Last Thursday, Eric Charles Gladden pleaded no contest to charges related to inappropriate sexual contact with underage students. Sentencing is set for July 16th.

Monica Alarcon who previously entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor charges for falsifying documents to assist Gladden reportedly faces 90 days in county jail.
