Matthew Gantz, 41, a drama teacher at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student.

Gantz is charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

The alleged victim has told investigators that the sexual assaults began in 2007.

Following his arrest, Gantz was being held in the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bail.

09/30/08 - Another Alleged Victim and More Charges

Matthew Gantz is now facing three new counts of sexual assault of a person in custody on allegations that he had a sexual relationship in 2005 with a second female student.

As a result of the new charges, bail for Gantz was reportedly raised to $60,000 and more charges are possible.

Gantz resigned from the school on Monday.

Paul C. Chiarella, 38, a teacher at Niagara Falls High School, in Niagara Falls, New York has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child on allegations that he had sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student.

Niagara Falls Police say that the teacher and student had a two month relationship and that Chiarella came to their attention after the alleged victim’s mother complained to school administrators and the school passed the information on to police.

Chiarella who is reportedly on paid leave from the school turned himself in to police this morning, made an initial court appearance and was released on $1,000 bail.

Chiarella’s next court appearance is set for April 2nd.

Both charges against Charella are misdemeanors carrying a maximum punishment of one year in jail.

05/20/08 - Defense Attorney Seeks Dismissal

Chiarella attorney James J. Faso says he will file a motion to dismiss both charges against his client because the information provided by the DA’s office is too vague and lacked specific information such as dates and times of the alleged offenses. Fasco says he can not defend his client in the absence of specific information.

Matthew Engelson, 30, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, a history teacher and girl’s soccer coach at North Brunswick High School has been charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student.

Reportedly Engelson has been charged with sexual assault and official misconduct, both second-degree crimes with maximum prison sentences of 10 years each.

Engelson came to the attention of authorities when school officials notified North Brunswick police they had information indicating Engelson was exchanging sexually explicit instant messages with the girl via computer. It is further alleged that Engelson met with the girl on Saturday in South Brunswick and the two had sex.

Police ask anyone with information about Engelson to call North Brunswick police Detective William Lovas at (732) 247-0922, ext. 313, or Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the prosecutor’s office sex crimes unit at (732) 745-3600.

09/29/08 - Guilty Plea

On Friday, Matthew Engelson pleaded guilty to a child endangerment count after reportedly admitted he fondled a 17-year-old female.

As part of the plea deal charges of sexual assault and official misconduct will be dismissed.

Sentencing is set for January 30, 2009 and Engleson remains free on $150,000 bond until that time.

Engelson faces up to five years in prison at sentencing.

Anthony Eugene Tollison, 27, of Pell City, Alabama and a teacher’s aide at Pell City High School has been arrested on charges of second-degree rape.

The alleged victim is reportedly a female younger than 16 but older than 12.

Tollison works with special education students at the high school.

The district attorney’s office says the rape was not connected with Tollison’s job at the high school or with the Pell City School System.

If convicted Tollison faces up to twenty years in prison.

Following his arrest Tollison was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on July 30th.

09/27/08 - Tollison Indicted A Second Time

Anthony Tollison, currently on bond on the second-degree rape charge has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs within 3 miles of an elementary school.

Reportedly Tollison was indicted for the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance near a school campus.

Following his arrest Tollison was being held without bond pending a bond revocation hearing sought by prosecutors.

Man charged with 2nd-degree rape

Sandra Binkley, 36, a math teacher at Portland High School in Portland, Tennessee has been arrested and charged with statutory rape by an authority figure for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old male student.

It is alleged that Brinkley had sex with the boy during March of this year during school hours and when other students were in the building.

Brinkley came to the attention of authorities when the boy reportedly told his parents earlier this week and they in turn contacted school administrators.

The father of the boy has been quoted in news media reports as saying, “He said she was okay, she was real nice. He said she was real friendly.”

Brinkley reportedly turned herself in to police on Thursday and was subsequently released from the Sumner County jail on $5,000 bond.

Brinkley who has reportedly taught at the school for 10 years has been placed on administrative leave without pay by the school system.
