Guilty!

Gregory Orlando Pili Keau, 30, a teacher’s assistant at McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii has been arrested and with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female special education student in a classroom.

According to Honolulu Police, Keau has been charged with two counts each of second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree sexual assault.

It is alleged that last week, when the special education student was cleaning a classroom that Keau ordered her to remove her pants and rubbed himself on the girl’s buttocks. It is also alleged that Keau ordered the girl to perform oral sex upon him and that in fear she complied.

It is further alleged that the sexual assault was interrupted when a special education skills trainer walked in on Keau and the student while Keau was sexually assaulting her. The co-worker informed school officials and the police were called.

The alleged victim has told investigators that Keau first sexually assaulted her when she was 16-years-old.

Keau was arrested Sunday night when he turned himself at police headquarters.

Following his arrest, Keau was held on $75,000 bail.

07/28/08 - Guilty Plea

Gregory Keau has pleaded guilty on all four counts.

The felony counts carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and the misdemeanor counts carry a maximum sentence of 1 year.

Reportedly the state intends to seek consecutive sentences which if granted could result in a total of 22 years.

Keau will be required to register as a sex offender.

10/17/08 - Sentencing

Gregory Keau has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Keau will be required to register as a sex offender.

At his sentencing Keau apologized to both the victim’s family and his family.

Darin Yoshinaka, 28, a former assistant volleyball coach at Maryknoll School in Honolulu, Hawaii has been arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old female student.

Yoshinaka is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and five counts of third-degree sexual assault.

It is alleged that the sexual assaults happened on November 3 and January 2.

Yoshinaka who is no longer employed by the school was released on $50,000 bail following his arrest.

Yoshinaka came to the attention of police following the second alleged incident when the girl told her parents who then called police.

06/28/08 - Guilty Plea

Darin Yoshinaka has entered into a plea deal with prosecutors and admitted having sexual contact with a 13-year-old female student five times.

As originally charged Yoshinaka faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Under the plea deal he faces not more than 18 months in prison or up to five years probation.

09/01/08 - Sentencing

Darin Yoshinaka has been sentenced to 18 months in prison in accordance with his plea deal.

Yoshinaka apologized to the family and said that he would accept any sentence that the court sees fit.

In addition to his 18 month prison sentence Yoshinaka will be be required to serve 5 years of probation.

At Friday’s sentencing hearing, the mother of the victim said her daughter has gone through a range of emotions, including fear, anger, depression, low self-esteem and suicidal tendencies.

Yoshinaka will undergo “an extremely extensive and strict” sex offender treatment program and will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

Frederick Rames, 66, a former substitute teacher and coach at Ka’ala Elementary School in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison, ordered to register as a sex offender and fined $840 after he admitted sexually assaulting six boys.

Rames, who pleaded no-contest to six charges of third-degree sex assault in September, apologized to his victims, who were not in court. Circuit Judge Michael Wilson told Rames “you indulged in your sexual impulses and your lack of self-control reaffirms the need for sex-offender registration and the need for treatment.

The victims were 7 to 12 years old, and the assaults occurred from 2002 to 2006.

Rames was arrested after a 7-year-old boy diagnosed with herpes accused Rames, his soccer coach, of sexually assaulting him.
