Joaquin Gonzalez, 60, a Spanish teacher at Jackson High School in Jackson, Georgia has been has been released from jail on bond a week after being arrested on allegation that he propositioned at least two female students.

It is alleged that the girls told deputies that they didn’t have to turn in homework if they went along with Gonzalez’s demands.

Reportedly both parents and investigators were surprised and upset to learn that Gonzalez had been released on bond after his bond originally set at $50,000 was cut in half, supposedly by agreement between the prosecution and defense.

My Fox Atlanta reports:

“The claims are he was trying to entice the children to come out, day and night, for various illicit reasons,” said Sheriff Gene Pope of the Butts County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators said the alleged contact with those students was intimate - but not sexual.

Reportedly a grand jury is expected to hear evidence in the case in February.

Matthew Gantz, 41, a drama teacher at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia has been arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student.

Gantz is charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

The alleged victim has told investigators that the sexual assaults began in 2007.

Following his arrest, Gantz was being held in the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bail.

09/30/08 - Another Alleged Victim and More Charges

Matthew Gantz is now facing three new counts of sexual assault of a person in custody on allegations that he had a sexual relationship in 2005 with a second female student.

As a result of the new charges, bail for Gantz was reportedly raised to $60,000 and more charges are possible.

Gantz resigned from the school on Monday.

12/21/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Matthew Gantz has pleaded guilty to two counts of sodomy and was sentenced to 20 years, with six years to serve in prison.

Gamtz will be required to register as a sex offender and to pay $2,000 restitution for counseling for each victim.

Claire Richards, 35, a math teacher at Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia has been arrested on 23 charges including two sexual assault counts.

Richards was arrested and charged Friday morning on allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Richards and a 16-year-old male student.

Richards’ arrest came after a months-long investigation by the Columbus Police Department.

Richards was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a person in custody, four counts of interference with custody and seventeen counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

Richards was booked into the Muscogee County jail at 1 p.m. Friday with bond set at $17,500. Reportedly she was released on bond around 4 p.m.

Reportedly Richards has been placed in an administrative position, away from contact with students while the case is pending.

Some news media reports indicate that Claire Richards is also know as Marie Richard. At this point we have been unable to confirm or disprove that information.
